Position Overview

Are you passionate about sustainable farming and cutting-edge technology? Apply for our Farm Coordinator internship and gain hands-on experience in our vertical, hydroponic farms. Here at Connection Kitchen Farms, you'll learn to grow fresh, nutrient-dense produce for our kitchens as part of Exact Sciences' commitment to employee wellness. You'll also have a hand in some of our campus sustainability initiatives such as our onsite compost and recycling education programming.

Essential Duties

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Grow inside container hydroponic farms including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, and packaging produce.
  • Clean and maintain the hydroponic farm, including general farm cleaning, refilling water and nutrient tanks and calibrating sensors.
  • Test and maintain water quality for growing.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot automated nutrient system when issues arise.
  • Work collaboratively with food service and catering.
  • Plan and support community outreach opportunities.
  • Champion of an effective food safety program.
  • Support campus sustainability initiatives.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to maintain a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to organize projects, record data, and maintain timelines for tracking progress.
  • Strong, reliable worker with ability to work independently.
  • Self-starter who has great attention to detail and a willingness to learn new subjects.
  • Proactive, goal-oriented individual who takes pride in their accomplishments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 20% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 20% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to use a telephone through a headset.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, crouch, stoop, squat and kneel.
  • Ability to work in hydroponic farm conditions.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in plant science or related field.  
  • Basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, email usage, word processing and cloud base application technology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge of food safety regulations and standards.
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge of basic agriculture growing practices, particularly around controlled environment agriculture.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a greenhouse, or production environment.
  • Work experience growing crops either hydroponically and/or traditionally.

Salary Range:

$34,000.00 - $54,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
