Job Summary
The Executive Payment Acceptance role is accountable to lead the strategic direction of Payments Acceptance and to manage the business team in order to achieve business and financial goals. The role is based within the Product business area within Relationship Banking but operates across all clusters within Absa South Africa.
Job Description
The primary purpose of the role is to:
- Develop and drive the strategy payments capability in Relationship Banking through close collaboration with our Product business and segment teams to ensure a competitive payment capability as a core part of our value proposition.
- Managing client and partner relationships across the payments acceptance value chain.
- Developing new and innovative products and taking product to market that diversify and grow the payments acceptance capability in ensuring sustainability of the business.
Key Accountabilities
Accountability: Strategic planning, collaboration and thought leadership
- Maintain and grow Absa’s leading Payment Acceptance position within the market by providing innovate leadership over the product management and development and the commercial execution of product strategies into our Absa Clusters and Segments.
- Provide thought leadership and direction within the bank and industry keeping close to the impact of regulatory changes; payment risks, new entrants in the markets and partnerships and or relationships that could impact Absa.
Accountability: Business Management and achievement of financial objectives
- Ensuring appropriate business planning including MTP, STP and RAF to meet business area financial contributions.
- Ensuring oversight and action with business teams to ensure all financial and non-financial business plans are continuously achieved and remedial action taken where necessary.
- Play a lead role in ensuring internal stakeholders are abreast of payment risks, industry changes, vendor and key partner relationships together Product Executives, Relationship banking and Group Executives as required.
- Ensure compliance within Absa’s operational and risk environment and a close working relationship with relevant peers with a proactive approach to risk management.
- Addressing operational and or efficiency challenges within the business from system, ways of work or people challenges.
Accountability: People Management
- Lead, develop, and motivate teams creating a high-performance environment including continuous coaching and mentoring to the team with clear strategic direction to ensure outperformance against business plans.
- Ensuring people management responsibility for direct reports and business area for performance management, development, under-performance, training, assuming reward and recognition, grievance and disciplinary action required.
Accountability: Risk Management and Compliance
- Ensure that processes, control requirements and risk management frameworks that impact the area are documented and understood by all members of the team.
- Ensure there are proper internal audit procedures and the timely resolution of all audit findings.
- Ensure that all key risks are allocated to responsible individuals and that they are aligned to, managed and reported on through the governance framework.
- Ensure that the team understands all compliance requirements and that all regulatory requirements are adhered to.
Role / Person Specification
Education and Experience Required
- Post Graduate degree or MBA (NQF Level 7) preferable.
- Minimum 15 years in a financial institution with at least 5 years experience in an Executive level role leading an acquiring and payments strategy combined with the running of a commercial P&L to achieve financial targets.
