Our engineering department consists of 200+ people across multiple teams, including application development, infrastructure, data platform, machine learning, and security. As an Engineering Manager in the Expand Core Channels pillar, you will lead a team of engineers focused on creating a cohesive and optimized messaging experience for our customers. Your team will drive core investments in SMS, MMS, and Email while exploring and implementing solutions in emerging channels like RBM and Push. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a customer-focused mindset to ensure we deliver innovative and high-performing products across all channels where subscribers engage. You'll work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams to scale and enhance our messaging capabilities, shaping the future of subscriber communication.
What you'll accomplish
- Lead a team to build new cutting-edge AI-driven products in our New York officeEmpathize with the end-user, and partner with our product and design teams to build world-class products
- Understand the technology in your domain, and dive deep to drive foundational improvements
- Balance and prioritize multiple projects, ensuring timely and predictable delivery while maintaining a high standard of quality
- Partner with teams such as generative AI, ML, data platform, and others to build a strong underlying product platform
- Lead change management and adoption of new technologies across teams within Attentive
Your expertise
- You have a significant history of building great user-facing software in a fast-paced environment
- You have strong technical experience, and are able to understand the full stack of software development from top to bottom
- Experience managing and coaching 3+ direct reports for growth and success in a fast paced environment
- You have a strong commitment to software quality, with a history of building reliable, high-uptime systems that meet and exceed performance expectations.
- You excel at translating business needs into well-defined projects, taking a hands-on approach to solution design, implementation, and execution.
- You thrive in a collaborative environment, working effectively with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals and ensure cohesive execution.
- You have an inherent curiosity and analytic follow-through; you can’t help but ask “why?” and love using data and logic to explore potential solutions

- 8,000 brands powered by Attentive sent over 2.2 billion text messages over Cyber Week 2023 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday) representing a growth of 31% from 2022
- We sent 32 billion SMS messages in 2023, up 32% YoY. That’s an average of 87 million per day
- Our production cluster contains over 18,000 containers which serve 200+ services
- Our streaming services process over 80 billion events per month
What we use
- We use a wide variety of technology and we’re always looking for the best solutions to solve hard problems
- Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Pulsar, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
- Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright
