What you'll do

As an Engineering Manager you will manage the execution of Agile practices and processes, helping the team accelerate their development and optimize their output at a sustainable pace while maintaining the culture and continuing to deliver value to our customers at a fast and frequent pace. You will manage and build on a reliable continuous improvement process. You will ensure efficient delivery at high quality. Having multiple touch points across the business, you will act as an escalation point for development teams to help mitigate and unblock where required. You will be managing a number of engineers and be responsible for building relationships, coaching and helping them improve. 

You will also: 



  • Understand the objectives of the business and department to ensure focused delivery of the team.
  • Support individual engineer development to grow capability and skillsets in line with business needs and personal aspirations.
  • Run regular individual 121 sessions, assist in OKR definition and review, run regular performance reviews.
  • Coordinate team ceremonies including standups, retrospective, sprint planning, sprint reviews and sprint demos.
  • Maintain the flow of work, driving to ensure transparency and predictability of delivery.
  • Maintain and groom the backlog to ensure good health and work with stakeholders to assess order.
  • Work with the team to perform work breakdown, estimation and assess delivery approaches to meet business requirements.
  • Manage processes to ensure software is maintained, at appropriate supported version levels and plan this work into the roadmap.
  • Be a DevOps champion and encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing and engagement in activities such as hack-a-thons, knowledge sharing and blogs.
  • Assess team capabilities and ensure breadth and depth of skills are maintained to support the department by encouraging pairing, shadowing and secondments.
  • Be an ambassador for DevOps. Engage, Promote and Celebrate the work accomplished together on delivering value. 


What you'll bring

  • Proven record of leading, developing and managing similar or larger development teams delivering a software product to customers.
  • Ideally this will be a business-to-business product and ideally web based following agile practices and principles.
  • Proven record in managing a team producing measurable delivery of software in a timely and high-quality manner. Experience in leading delivery cycles and work with multiple releases with agile methodologies in a service or SaaS environment.
  • Experience of best practice work management tools, continuous integration, continuous delivery and DevOps practices.
  • Experience in managing multi-cultural and diverse background technology professionals to create a cohesive and collaborative team.

Skills

A background with a cross section of the following technologies would be beneficial; 

  • AWS, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Terraform, Config Management, ELK stack, Grafana, OpsGenie, Python

Requirements 

  • 2+ years of experience as a DevOps Manager or as a Tech Lead.
  • Leadership and ability to guide, grow and coach a team.
  • Track record of working with stakeholders to build a roadmap.
  • Experience of developing a team and nurturing a strong culture of integrity.
  • Adaptable and the ability to flex to meet changing business requirements.
  • Infuse an “owners mindset” into everything we do.
  • A solid understanding of AWS Cloud Architecture. 
  • Experience working at scale on production infrastructure. 
  • Knowledge with Infrastructure as Code provisioning and configuration management.
  • Knowledge with the operation of Microservices infrastructure.
  • Knowledge with CI/CD tooling.
