Summary

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Total Rewards will lead and manage the global Compensation and Health & Welfare benefits programs for InterDigital employees, globally. This role requires a strategic leader who will ensure that all reward programs—compensation, benefits, recognition, and incentives—align with business goals, attract top talent, and foster a performance-driven culture. The Director will navigate global compensation trends, legislative requirements, and local nuances to deliver competitive, equitable, and sustainable Total Rewards offerings across diverse markets.

Responsibilities

Compensation Strategy & Design

  • Design, develop, and implement global compensation programs that align with business objectives, ensuring competitive and equitable pay structures.

  • Conduct competitive benchmarking for base pay, short-term incentives, and long-term incentives, and executive compensation, recommending adjustments to maintain market competitiveness.

  • Oversee the internal structure of job titles and salary bands, ensuring consistency and equity across the organization.

  • Lead compensation-related projects, aligning HR operations and management to meet goals, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Manage operations of equity awards, through overseeing stock plan administrator ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal controls

  • Lead successful annual compensation planning & administration including but not limited to execution of base salary, bonus, short and long term incentives, benefits and all related communications and administration.

Benefits Program Management

  • Develop and manage global health and welfare benefit programs, including for North America and EMEA, ensuring competitiveness, compliance, and employee satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with benefits brokers and providers to build effective partnerships and design impactful benefit offerings.

  • Oversee and manage the operation of all company benefit offerings, including conducting competitive benchmarking and evaluating plan effectiveness.

  • Manage 401k, non-qualified deferred compensation and pension plans through collaboration with finance and payroll to ensure compliance with plan documents and applicable law.

Executive & Board-Level Support

  • Collaborate with Chief People Officer, Human Capital Committee, and Board of Directors on executive compensation matters, including designing short-term and long-term incentive plans, equity management, and compliance with SEC regulations.

  • Prepare materials for Human Capital Committee meetings, providing insights and recommendations that support overall business strategy.

  • Provide support for the annual proxy including CD&A and Pay vs. Performance tables and CEO Pay Ratio analysis.

Leadership, Engagement & Communication

  • Lead team ensuring alignment between compensation and benefits strategies and business objectives.

  • Foster strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including HR, legal, and benefits providers, ensuring collaborative decision-making and service delivery.

  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting of executive compensation and equity expenses.

  • Create and execute a communication strategy for Total Rewards programs, ensuring clarity, understanding, and engagement among employees.

  • Develop opportunities to enhance employee engagement through proactive messaging, improving overall perception of rewards programs.

  • Educate and support HR teams and business leaders on effectively communicating and promoting the value of compensation and benefits offerings.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Stay current on federal, state, and international compensation and benefits regulations (FLSA, ADA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA), ensuring all programs remain compliant.

  • Lead the development and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in all global markets.

  • Provide counsel to management on compensation-related issues, including pay changes, promotions, and organizational shifts.

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Use analytics and data to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of compensation and benefits programs, identifying areas for improvement.

  • Develop comprehensive financial reviews and analyses of compensation plans and incentive programs to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, with a strong background in global programs.

  • Experience working with Board of Directors’ Compensation Committees on executive compensation and related issues.

  • Expertise in designing and managing global compensation, benefits, and equity programs.

  • Experience managing both domestic and international health and welfare plans to support organizational growth

  • Proven leadership experience in both strategic planning and execution.

  • Ability to understand diverse stakeholder needs and collaborate effectively across teams.

  • Hands-on experience creating and implementing global compensation strategies.

  • Knowledge of benefits compliance, including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and more.

  • Strong understanding of audits and compliance filings for compensation and benefits.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and empathy.

  • Proven project management skills and successful track record of delivery.

  • Skilled at building trusted relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to prepare and present clear, actionable reports and recommendations.

  • Proven track record in administering compensation programs like bonuses, equity, and incentives.

  • Skilled in using data and analytics to drive decision-making.

  • Strong communication skills to solve problems and execute goals.

  • Highly adaptable to changing priorities and structures.

  • Capable of managing expectations and balancing multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
