Job Summary
The Head of Strategic Partnerships will lead strategic partnerships to expand and diversify the funding portfolio the Health Data Collaboration – Safety and Effectiveness Program (HDC-SER). The HDC-SER program is a key and growing portfolio of public health and safety surveillance studies for pharmaceutical, biologic, and medical device industry. HDC-SER is housed in the Division of Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology (TIDE) within the Department of Population Medicine (DPM: http://www.populationmedicine.org/) at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. TIDE serves as the coordinating and analytic center for several national research initiatives, including FDA Sentinel System and Innovation in Medical Evidence Development and Surveillance (IMEDS) program. TIDE is at the forefront of the use of Real-World Evidence (RWE) to support research and decision-making, with an emphasis on large-scale, multi-site collaborations. The Head of Strategic Partnerships will set and implement the strategy to meet goals for the program. Qualified candidates will be eligible for a Harvard Medical School faculty appointment.
Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing
- Strategy: Responsible for implementing the program’s strategic growth plan and meeting the annual program goals. Spearhead strategic planning, including but not limited to the establishment of annual program initiatives with corresponding financial goals. Accountable for the development and implementation of these initiatives as well as tracking and managing metrics (i.e., objectives and key results to proactively meet those goals and demonstrate measurable impact).
- Program Growth: Lead business development activities to meet strategic growth goals. Develop an external outreach plan to increase the program’s visibility amongst life science companies, non-profit scientific organizations, and regulatory agencies; increase visibility and reputation of the program for current and potential new clients; oversee outward-facing communication. Represent program at scientific conferences and public meetings.
- Sponsor and Partner Management: Establish and cultivate current sponsor and partner relationships to achieve portfolio goals. Serve as the program’s lead point-of-contact for study funders and collaborators to ensure cohesive communication strategy.
- Program Leadership: Oversee pre-award team activities: development of proposals, scopes of work, deliverables, and timelines. Responsible for program oversight: monitor the status of all projects, both those in development and those underway; identify potential barriers and recommend solutions; establish program dashboards to assess resource needs as well as other key program metrics.
- Scientific Leadership: Serve as scientific subject matter expert at pre-award meetings regarding program capabilities, experience, and strategy. Lead scientific proposal writing. Serve as scientific lead for select project(s) for up to 20% effort.
- Mentor/co-mentor colleagues.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications – what you need to perform the job
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Doctorate degree, such as a PhD, MD, PharmD, in public health, epidemiology, health policy, or related fields – pharmacoepidemiology focus preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 15 years’ experience in academic, government, consulting, or life sciences/biopharma settings.
- Substantial experience in working with life sciences companies in designing and implementing rigorous scientific studies including but not limited to descriptive epidemiology, post-approval safety studies (PASS)/post-marketing requirements (PMRs), and comparative effectiveness studies.
- Preferred: Record of scholarly achievement sufficient to qualify for Harvard Medical School faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience overseeing and managing the delivery of accurate, timely, and robust scientific work products to outside funders.
- Experience in leading strategic planning, operational activities, funding, and management of program teams.
- Experience in interacting with and preparing scientific deliverables for US FDA and EMA regulatory review preferred.
- Experience leading successful scientific proposals.
