Reporting to the Senior Director of Growth & Membership, the Director of Growth Marketing will collaborate with editorial, product, analytics, design, and membership teams to innovate new approaches and deliver results.

Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement comprehensive growth marketing strategies aligned with business objectives and audience needs.
- Identify opportunities and drive implementation for growth in subscriber acquisition, retention, and lifetime value through innovative, data-driven marketing approaches.
Campaign Management:
- Lead end-to-end creation and execution of marketing campaigns across email, paid media, partnerships, and organic channels.
- Oversee creative development in collaboration with the Brand Creative team to ensure messaging consistency and impact.
- Launch and promote new newsletters, ensuring alignment with Axios' broader audience and business goals.
- Leverage and elevate first-party data initiatives to inform campaign strategies and personalization efforts, creating highly targeted marketing programs.
Audience Growth & Retention:
- Oversee paid media (social, SEM, OOH) roadmap for lead generation, product awareness, and content marketing, owning the budget and elevating reporting.
- Oversee email and lifecycle marketing, from onboarding to win-back and retention campaigns, ensuring continuous funnel optimization and improving user experience.
- Lead the development of an always-on email testing program to improve engagement and maximize ROI.
- Drive churn reduction initiatives and improve lifetime value through subscriber lifecycle marketing.
- Lead registration wall strategy, testing plan, and vendor relationship.
Partnerships:
- Build and nurture strategic marketing partnerships to expand audience reach and strengthen brand alignment.
- Identify co-marketing opportunities with external organizations to drive lead generation and subscriptions.
Data & Insights:
- Partner with Audience and Data Insights teams to measure campaign performance, analyze trends, develop key performance metrics, and communicate progress.
Performance Tracking & Reporting:
- Monitor and analyze marketing campaign performance, providing actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Continuously refine strategies based on performance data and audience feedback, ensuring marketing initiatives meet business goals.
Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor a team of marketing and media professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Work cross-functionally with editorial, product, and finance teams to integrate marketing efforts with broader organizational priorities.
Innovation & Trends:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and audience behavior shifts to bring fresh ideas to marketing strategies.
- Drive creative thinking and innovation to differentiate Axios's products in the market.
The Details: This role requires a proven ability to scale digital audiences and encourage habitual engagement. Ideal candidates will have:
- 8+ years of experience in marketing or related fields, with a focus on subscriptions, newsletters, or membership growth.
- Expertise in cross-channel marketing, including email, paid media, and partnerships.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in audience segmentation and data-driven decision-making.
- A proactive, creative approach to problem-solving and campaign optimization.
- Familiarity with tools like marketing automation platforms, CRM systems, and analytics software.
- Experience leading teams and working collaboratively across departments.
Starting salary for this role is in the range of $105,000 - $120,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
