Job Summary
The position leads and oversees NiSource’s company-wide key risk transfer functions – corporate insurance, claims management and credit risk. The role is also responsible for the strategy and performance of NiSource’s captive insurance subsidiary. The position reports to the Vice President and Treasurer and collaborates closely with senior leaders across the company to ensure that enterprise risks are identified, measured, monitored, and mitigated or transferred in alignment with NiSource’s risk posture and in support of NiSource’s overall strategy. The position directs an internal team and several teams of external resources.
Essential Functions

Develops, implements, administers and maintains NiSource’s company-wide insurance programs, including the negotiation of premiums, deductibles/retentions, and terms and conditions for over 15 independent lines of coverage with a budget exceeding $50 million

Implement strategy and enhancements within all insurance programs that align to changes in NiSource’s business operations, risk posture, and market offerings

Develop and institute corporate insurance loss prevention programs to reduce claims exposure and optimize total cost of risk

Manage and maintain relationships with external parties including brokers, underwriters, and industry peers to ensure access to domestic and global insurance markets at competitive pricing

Develop and execute the underwriting and investment strategy of NiSource’s captive insurance company with over $170 million in assets, managing third party service providers and maintaining compliance with insurance regulations

Direct enterprise-wide claims management function responsible for the settlement strategy, timely and professional administration, and reserve practices of insured claims, including emergency response activities and engagement with claimants, adjusters, insurers, and internal/external legal counsel

Oversee NiSource’s credit risk function and ensure coordination with business partners in respect to contractual risk transfer to third parties
Required Qualifications For Position

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university

Strong people leadership skills, focused on the personal and professional growth and development of others

Proven ability to collaborate and influence across all levels and functions with the organization to achieve corporate objectives

Ability to quickly establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect at an executive level

Proven program and project leadership experience on high impact, cross-functional initiatives

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex or abstract ideas clearly and succinctly through verbal and written communications

Ability to structure, analyze, and present decision focused alternatives

Accustomed to working in complex, ambiguous environments
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
-
8-10 years of experience in corporate insurance functions
-
Demonstrated experience in the management of a captive insurance company

Proven command of risk transfer provisions in contractual documents

Utility industry experience, including knowledge and understanding of the regulatory construct and opportunities to expand that construct

Advanced degree and/or professional designation in a related field
Work Authorization

Salary Range*:
$155,400.00 - $233,100.00
*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
