Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era in micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler (MC) technology. The MC enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. The MC promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing both for the many device classes that never could be made by semiconductor methods but also to open up entirely new classes. Furthermore, the MC is fully digital in the way 3D printing is digital, but where 3D printing produces parts of a single material using a single process, the MC is a multi-process, multi-material technology: bits and raw materials go in and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device – one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler – that we will be unveiling to the world soon.

Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

About This Role:

We are seeking a technically savvy, self-starting, strategic VP-level leader to build and execute Atomic Machines’ Go-To-Market strategy. This includes the product management, product marketing, business development/sales and brand marketing functions. This person will spearhead the company’s emergence from stealth, establishing the Atomic Machines brand and initial product offerings, and they will be responsible for the marketing and launch of Atomic Machines’ first truly revolutionary device product, as well as the many device products to follow. They will initiate and develop key commercial relationships that lead to high-volume sales, and they will establish and drive multiple distribution channels. They will also bring Atomic Machines’ Real-Time Foundry service to market.

This is a true bootstrapping situation, in that the leader must come in as a team of one – the founder of a new function at Atomic Machines – identify and tackle critical work while defining and building out the GTM organization required to accomplish world-class GTM outcomes. As such, the successful candidate will have serious entrepreneurial grit, as well as strong alignment with Atomic Machines’ mission of radically advancing the human command of matter. This position reports directly to the CEO.

What You’ll Do:

  • Gain a deep technical / functional understanding of Atomic Machines’ first device product.
  • Develop a textured understanding of the market opportunities for the product.
  • Identify, pursue and convert major customer opportunities, requiring market mapping, networking with target customers and distribution partners, and establishing strong strategic partnerships to grow revenue.
  • Nurture and grow existing commercial relationships. Once a relationship is established, manage it in a deeply customer-centric manner, ensuring that Atomic Machines continually exceeds customer expectations. Dive deep into customers’ businesses and markets to understand their true needs.
  • Work cross-functionally. Establish strong working relationships across Device, Process and Platform Engineering, Product Management and Product Marketing with efficient processes for coordination.
  • Market research and competitive analysis. Rapidly map markets and stay abreast of competitors, emerging technologies and industry trends. Utilize this information to develop and iterate on product and marketing strategies.
  • Sales enablement and training. Identify and bring up distribution channels, e.g. electronic component distributors. Establish sales processes, create materials, and develop strategies that empower the sales team to close business effectively.
  • Negotiation and deal closure: Lead contract negotiations and close mutually beneficial deals, protecting company assets (e.g. IP), achieving strong economic performance and ensuring partner satisfaction.
  • Track performance and reporting. Across business development, sales, product management and marketing and brand marketing, establish, communicate and transparently track against clear company-aligned KPIs to the L-team and overall company.
  • Contribute to overall company strategy and vision. Provide insights and feedback on market opportunities, customer opportunities and pain points, and industry trends to inform product development and strategic direction.
  • Team leadership and management. Develop a time-based organization plan and build out the team with exceptionally strong, culturally aligned players. Manage the team to achieve consistent high performance.

What You’ll Need:

  • 10+ years of combined experience in the GTM functions in a deep-tech hardware company, especially including business development & sales, product management and product marketing. Brand marketing experience is a bonus.
  • Significant leadership experience in a high-growth startup environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience as the key leader of successful full-lifecycle product management and marketing initiative, starting from a new product concept and leading through to high-volume sales.
  • Proven success in scaling a business and generating new revenue streams in a fast-paced setting.
  • Significant experience with the electronic/MEMS component industry is a major plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Internally, this translates to comfort with regular deep interaction with the senior leadership team as well as broad communication and interaction with the entire company. Externally, this involves effectively networking into, developing and closing compelling commercial opportunities and speaking with potency on behalf of the company in a range of forums.
  • Ability to develop and implement business development strategies, from lead generation to deal closure, including effective use of CRM tools.
  • Self-starter with high accountability and a strong and gritty entrepreneurial mindset, capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities.
  • Solid understanding of technology products and services in Atomic Machines’ domain, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in a simple, relatable way and translate them into commercial outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience handling multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience managing and optimizing a GTM budget to ensure resource efficiency and high ROI.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required. An MBA is preferred.

What We Do

Atomic Machines is redefining humanity’s relationship with matter. We see a future where our tools will allow us to reorganize matter at the atomic level at will, where we will go from bits to atoms for any object or machine that can be designed in alignment with physical laws. We have begun our journey with the development of a robotic manufacturing platform capable of making an entirely new class of micro-electromechanical (MEMS) devices. We are well funded and have exceptionally strong product/market fit and a clear go-to-market path for the device we will make first with our platform. Our platform breaks traditional manufacturing paradigms and constraints, enabling inexpensive rapid prototyping as well as large scale manufacturing with highly compelling economics.

Joining forces with us means becoming part of an incredibly talented, inventive and passionate multi-disciplinary team working on a massive world-changing mission. You will have the opportunity to help define the company from its early days. You’ll be challenged to learn and grow as a builder and a leader as the company itself grows rapidly.
