Position Overview:
The Digital Content Associate is responsible for leading content creation for the Brennan Center’s TikTok and Instagram channels. This new role is expected to significantly increase our vertical video output on these channels and act as the day-to-day lead on both. As a think tank, all content must be accurate, nonpartisan, and informative, and promote the Brennan Center’s work and perspective in a style that resonates with a diverse audience of voters concerned about democracy and justice issues.
This position will report to the Senior Digital Strategist and support the Senior Social Media Strategist. In addition, the position has a two-year term with the potential for renewal after two years.This cross-functional position will frequently collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including programs, editorial, creative, and fellow digital team members.
Note: This position is based at our headquarters in New York City.
Responsibilities:
- Act as an on-camera content creator translating Brennan Center written analysis and reports into compelling short-form vertical videos.
- Lead the full process of TikTok and Reels productions — including ideating, pitching, writing, filming, and editing videos.
- Develop long-term vision, goals, strategies, and tactics for the Brennan Center’s TikTok and Instagram channels.
- Write clear and compelling video scripts, graphics, and accompanying captions and descriptions that represent the values and voice of the Brennan Center.
- Support Brennan Center staff appearing on-camera in TikToks and Reels, coaching and sharing best practices for the platforms.
- Proactively identify rapid response opportunities for short videos tied to breaking news or that leverage trends.
- Lead content strategy for Instagram — working closely with an in-house creative team to ideate new concepts and request assets.
- Monitor social media trends, new features, and audience preferences, and stay abreast of best practices for short-form videos.
- Provide daily management of Instagram and TikTok accounts, including posting, monitoring comments, and responding to DMs.
- Analyze performance metrics and recommend strategic adjustments to improve message reach and effectiveness in alignment with organization positioning.
- Coordinate with program teams, editorial team, and other digital team members to highlight key initiatives, new publications, and events in engaging ways.
- Coordinate with external content creators for small-scale influencer campaigns — supporting the development of campaign plans and creative briefs as well as influencer sourcing and vetting and content review.
- Lead the development of an ambassador program of 5-10 external content creators that the Brennan Center can regularly deploy around priority report releases and signature campaigns.
- Coordinate with external agencies for larger-scale influencer engagements.
- Become an expert on organization goals and voice as well as program initiatives — coordinating with other digital channel owners to ensure consistent voice and cohesive messaging across channels.
- Be a strategic partner by brainstorming ideas to support campaigns, program, and development initiatives.
- Ensure all content adheres to Brennan Center policies and legal guidelines and considers diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) risks and opportunities.
- Assist with weekend social media publishing as part of a rotating coverage schedule and act as the primary backup when the social media lead is out.
Qualifications:
- 1 - 3 years or cycles of experience working within a social media team in a content creation role. Experience on a campaign, issue-advocacy organization, or a personal account discussing these topics is preferred.
- Experience working with social media influencers — collaborations in the political space preferred.
- Experience growing social media accounts from scratch and producing a high volume of content.
- Proven ability to turn a concept into compelling content and incorporate brand voice and personality.
- The ability to work collaboratively with others who have differing ideas and viewpoints.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple campaigns within multiple initiatives at once
- Demonstrated ability to quickly generate compelling, error-free copy
- Excellent written, verbal, and project management skills
- Bilingual Spanish proficiency preferred
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range assigned for this position is $72,000-$83,000. We determine our salary ranges based on market competitiveness and internal equity for each job. The salary offered to a selected candidate will be contingent upon the candidate’s experience, education, and qualifications, along with internal equity considerations.
