Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to oversee the data architecture and vendor management for our growing company of 200 employees. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that our data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and optimized for efficiency. You will manage relationships with key data vendors including Salesforce, FiveTran, and Azure SQL, while also ensuring that data governance standards and documentation, including a shared data dictionary, are upheld across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Strategy:
- Design, implement, and maintain the company’s data architecture to ensure high performance and scalability.
- Oversee data integrations, ETL processes, and database management to ensure seamless data flow between systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into efficient data models and workflows.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive, shared data dictionary to ensure consistent definitions and usage of data across the organization.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security across all platforms.
- Develop and maintain data governance policies, data standards, and best practices.
Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with key data vendors (Salesforce, FiveTran, Azure SQL, etc.) to ensure optimal service and support.
- Oversee the selection, negotiation, and contract management of data vendor services.
- Ensure that vendor solutions align with company goals and that integration processes run smoothly.
- Monitor vendor performance, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
Data Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and industry regulations.
- Implement data security measures to protect sensitive company information.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with internal policies.
- Ensure that the shared data dictionary is regularly updated and accessible to all relevant stakeholders.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Establish and monitor KPIs for data management performance.
- Create reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders to provide visibility into data quality and performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in data management, data architecture, or a similar role.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce, FiveTran, Azure SQL, or equivalent systems.
- Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
- Strong understanding of database management, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
- Experience with building and maintaining a data dictionary and ensuring data consistency across platforms.
- Excellent vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across teams.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions and modern data stack architectures.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with BI tools like Tableau, CRM Analytics, or similar platforms.
- Certification in data governance or relevant technologies (e.g., Salesforce certification, Azure certifications) is a plus.
