Position: Data Business ManagerReporting to: Chief Data OfficerLocation: York, LondonType: PermanentIntroductionThe Data Business Manager will have responsibility for governance, tracking of strategic objectives and business management activities across Data. Reporting to the Chief Data Officer, this newly created and high profile role is critical for providing effective business management across the function.The Role of Business ManagerThe role requires the ability to effectively prioritise and work autonomously to drive key initiatives, and must be able to engage effectively across the organisation, including at C-Level. Key Responsibilities
- Build, execute and maintain an effective Data Function governance structure and ways of working, including meeting oversight and cadence.
- Attend governance meetings with the Data Leadership Team, provide preparation support for key meetings and input to discussions as needed.
- Define and track key performance indicators and OKRs, showing progress against delivery of the Data Strategy.
- Set requirements for information gathering and sharing ahead of meetings, following up where necessary.
- Work with other teams to ensure that information and data presented to the Data Leadership Team enables informed debate and decision making e.g. finance cost definitions
- Work with Finance to review and understand Data Function budgets, expenses and financial performance, ensuring completion of any adjustments, updates or reallocations as needed.
- Act as a gatekeeper for all cross functional information gathering, ensuring there is a consistency, one source of the truth and alignment in the way information is presented.
- Support the Chief Data Officer with risk management and resilience activities, including preparation for governance meetings, driving follow up actions and coordinating mitigation strategies.
- Work alongside the communication team, creating mechanisms for Data Function information sharing and two-way feedback.
- Implement best practice ways of working - drive continuous improvements and ensure all engagements are effective and promote team cohesion.
- Foster and embed a culture of openness, collaboration, and effective communication across the Data Leadership Team.
- Support the Data Leadership Team to drive forward actions and ensure Data actions are completed to agreed timescales.
- Assist the Chief Data Officer, and wider Data Leadership Team, with ad-hoc queries and activities related to Data Function governance.
- Engage with key Group and Business Unit Data stakeholders to understand how the Data Leadership Team can maximise the value data brings to Hiscox, driving associated activities and actions.
Essential skills
- Experience in a Business Management (or relevant/similar) role.
- Experience of implementing governance processes and ways of working.
- Demonstrable experience of using data to drive improvements (e.g. OKRs).
- Experience in managing financials/budgets and working with finance teams to ensure data provides accurate and meaningful insights to key stakeholders.
- Experience in managing risks (ideally related to data or technology), understanding of risk, compliance and knowledge of operational resilience requirements.
- Solid influencing and communication skills with the ability to manage interactions with suppliers/senior stakeholders effectively.
- Exceptional communication skills, comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and able to articulate information credibly.
Desirable:
- Understanding of working within a regulated and audited environment.
- Previous Business Management experience in a Data function.
