GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
At this level, Data Analysts learn and perform specialized systems and reporting tasks, under supervision, with some latitude for independent action. The objectives at this level are simple report writing, data validation, and end user education.
Incumbents report to the appropriate Data and Analytics Manager and will be assigned a focus area: Hospital/Clinics (with focus on Financial, Operational and Clinical Areas) or Health Plan within the Driscoll Health System (DHS).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Positions in this class may perform any or all of the below listed duties. These should be interpreted as examples of the work, and are not necessarily all-inclusive.
Follows the Driscoll Way with communication, end user engagement, and customer service at all times. Follows all guidelines for PHI and data management. Ability to run, export and review reports and data within. Creates basic SQL query and has understanding of data models within their assigned focus area. Is or becomes proficient in Excel, including pivot tables, Power Query, Dashboards, etc. Engagement with end users: provide report training, assist with report scoping/requirements, helps generate report specifications and checklists. Maintains and assists teams with Analytics Department website, Analytics catalog, Reporting portals, etc. Can build simple reports in SSRS, Crystal, Epic, Workday, or other DHS software tools. Learns and develops basic knowledge/skills for Data Visualizations (PowerBI, Qlik, SlicerDicer, Radar Dashboards, Excel Dashboards) This position has the opportunity to advance into a Business Intelligence Developer or Advanced Healthcare Data Analyst position. Performs other related work as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, Degree in related field preferred (Degree in the fields such as Finance, Statistics, Data Mining and Analytics, Clinical Analytics, or Health Care Administration)

Familiarity in analytics, report development, data visualization applications or other data tools is favored.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: The job requires the ability to design reports using industry standard tools to mine data from the hospitals financial, operational and clinical enterprise systems. The information produced is for enhancing business/clinical processes. The successful candidate should have working experience with relational database querying tools and critical thinking skills to determine the appropriate course of action to meet reporting needs. The successful candidate must possess the ability to work in a team setting as well as independently and possess excellent analytical skills. Communication skills need to be above average to assess customer needs, assist others with report writing, and explain reports to customer audience. Preferred candidates must be well versed in financial and clinical reporting. Preferred candidate will have healthcare industry or related experience, prior experience working with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)system, knowledge of Clarity data structure for financial and clinical applications, experience with report performance tuning and optimization, experience with SQL query writing and comfortable in making data manipulations and calculations directly in the SQL script.
Specific Focus Area Requirements
Clinical:

Graduate from an accredited college/university preferred

Clinical setting with experience preferred

Prior experience with information systems with clinical information system experience preferred.

Provide leadership in the development of hospital initiatives or programs related to data collection, retrieval, analysis and interpretation to assist in optimizing patient outcomes and/or effectiveness and efficiency.

Must be able to extract internally generated data from current clinical modules within the electronic medical record. In addition to the internal data, will need to work with external data sources such as the PHIS database to provide external benchmarking comparisons and identify thorough clinical data.

Exhibits the ability to produce reports for internal clinical data and external data as necessary.

Serves as an expert on clinical data production/interpretation. Collaborate with colleagues and provide insight on data generation and interpret results and help facilitate recommendations/solutions.

Facilitate standardization of definitions to help provide consistent measurements of data throughout the facility.

Assess other clinical databases for attributes, data validation and necessity.
Health Plan:

Understand operations and goals of a health plan.

Stay current in the quality and performance measures based on industry standards or government initiatives (DSRIP, HEDIS measures, etc).

Integrate data from different sources specific to the health plan, to provide a full picture of organizational performance.

Utilize and understand public health data sources. Utilize Qlik or equivalent software.
Financial/Operational:

Ability to work with market analysis systems, preferred.

Participate in budget process developing forecasts for facility and departmental volume, as well as FTE requirements.

Familiarity with and an awareness of the laws and regulations that apply to an accounting and/or quality function are required to ensure compliance. Integrate data from different sources, such as Lawson, KRONOS, Epic, etc. to provide a full picture of organizational performance.

Develop capital analysis, including pro formas and developing methods of tracking ROI.
