About our Cyber Security team:

We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Detection Engineer for our Galway team. If you’re passionate about shaping the future of cybersecurity and ready for your next challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

About you:

You are skilled in researching security technologies, assessing security controls, and leveraging scripting and automation tools like Python, PowerShell, and Ansible to improve security operations and incident response. Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills enable you to tackle complex security challenges and devise effective solutions. You possess excellent leadership abilities, allowing you to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels. Additionally, you have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing security architectures in large, complex environments, and can handle multiple high-impact projects in fast-paced, high-pressure settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce security standards, manage advanced security tools, and respond to complex security incidents.

  • Mentor junior engineers and lead strategic security initiatives.

  • Build advanced detection capabilities based on research, threat intelligence, and adversarial techniques (MITRE ATT&CK).

  • Identify detection gaps in existing monitoring capabilities through threat landscape analysis, past incidents, and intelligence reports.

  • Design and implement advanced threat-detection mechanisms, with a focus on behavioural analysis and anomaly detection.

  • Develop SIEM correlation rules, alerts, and dashboards for platforms like Splunk and QRadar.

  • Automate security processes and develop custom detection rules using scripting languages such as Python and PowerShell.

  • Manage multiple high-impact projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Stay up to date with attacker methodologies, post-exploit operations, and security frameworks like NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, and Zero Trust.

Technical Skills & Expertise:

  • Expert-level proficiency in SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar), SOAR platforms (Phantom, Demisto), and Data Lake technologies.

  • Strong understanding of network security controls (firewalls, proxies, IPS/IDS).

  • Authentication and authorization protocols expertise.

  • Experience with Active Directory and Azure AD.

  • Cloud threat detection use-case development for Azure, AWS, and GCP.

  • Knowledge of security operations, threat intelligence, and SOC incident response.

  • Experience with GitHub and agile development methodologies.

  • Strong capability to write advanced regular expressions.

  • Knowledge and experience with Risk-Based Alerting (RBA) concepts.

  • Strong self-motivation and time management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, focusing on security engineering, architecture, and operations.

  • Proven experience with large-scale detection engineering initiatives and managing complex security environments.
