We are seeking a Sr. Content Designer who will be responsible for ensuring that content aligns with a cohesive strategy and vision while meeting business goals and user needs. This role is critical in refining how we communicate with our customers, leveraging data, research, and collaboration to craft messaging that enhances the overall experience. You’ll be detail-oriented, highly strategic, and an exceptional communicator, driving consistency, clarity, and impact across our digital products.
Key Team Priorities for the Coming Year:
- Building and maintaining a documentation site that serves as the portal of truth for the Currency Design System, ensuring it is clear, structured, and up to date.
- Developing educational materials, including guides, tutorials, best practices, and learning resources that support system adoption and usage.
- Partnering with UX researchers to better understand how internal teams interact with the design system and refine content accordingly.
- Advocating for user-centered messaging throughout the design system and product development process.
- Improving content operations and workflows to increase efficiency, accessibility, and impact.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain a centralized documentation site, ensuring it is the single source of truth for design system guidelines, principles, and best practices.
- Develop clear, engaging content that helps teams understand and implement the design system, including guides, usage documentation, component specs, and educational resources.
- Create learning materials such as tutorials, onboarding guides, FAQs, video scripts, and workshops to help teams effectively adopt and apply the Currency Design System.
- Collaborate with UX researchers to gather insights on content effectiveness and continuously refine documentation and learning materials.
- Implement content design best practices throughout the documentation and product development lifecycle—from discovery and research to content delivery.
- Advocate for user-centered messaging, ensuring that documentation and educational content are accessible, inclusive, and easy to understand.
- Work closely with product teams to ensure messaging and documentation align with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement improvements to content workflows and operations, ensuring scalability and efficiency in managing system-wide documentation.
- Stay up to date with best practices, accessibility guidelines, and industry trends to continuously improve the team’s approach to documentation and education.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ related experience
Familiarity with design systems and component-based design methodologies.
Background in content design, UX writing, content strategy, or technical documentation, preferably with a portfolio showcasing relevant work.
Experience building and maintaining documentation sites, knowledge bases, or internal content portals.
Strong ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging, and instructional content for a variety of audiences.
Experience creating learning materials such as guides, tutorials, FAQs, and onboarding resources.
Knowledge of accessibility standards, mobile/web UX, and systems thinking in digital products.
Proficiency with tools like Supernova, Figma, Miro, Confluence, Notion, or other documentation platforms.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and clarity.
Education and Experience Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience working in financial services or other regulated industries.
Experience navigating ambiguity and simplifying complex concepts through content.
Background in instructional design, UX research, or knowledge management.
Strong understanding of enterprise-wide content management and documentation best practices.
Experience working closely with Product Managers, Designers, Developers, and Researchers.
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $71,985.72 - $119,976.20 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role. The specific pay range applicable to you may vary based on your location.
