This role is about:

As a Chargeback Analyst, you will play a crucial role in managing, investigating, and resolving chargebacks while working to minimize financial losses and mitigate risks. You will collaborate with merchants, card schemes, alternative payment providers, and internal teams to develop effective chargeback prevention strategies and improve dispute resolution processes.

This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of card scheme systems, chargeback rules, and fraud management processes. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of internal chargeback handling tools and drive automation efforts for greater efficiency.

What you will do:

  • Chargeback & Dispute Resolution
    • Manage the dispute resolution process with all stakeholders, including card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), alternative payment methods, processors, and merchants.
    • Review and analyze chargeback rules, guidelines, and updates from card schemes.
    • Monitor and categorize chargeback trends while collaborating with relevant teams to develop strategies that reduce chargeback ratios.
    • Educate merchants on dispute resolution best practices and provide guidance on chargeback prevention.
  • Data Analysis & Risk Mitigation
    • Maintain accurate records of chargeback cases, trends, and reason codes while generating insightful reports for management.
    • Conduct regular reviews and performance analysis of chargeback activity for merchants in the portfolio.
    • Analyze credit and financial risks related to chargebacks and fraud to prevent financial losses.
    • Utilize internal and external chargeback systems and data analysis software to ensure efficient dispute handling.
  • Collaboration & Process Improvement
    • Work closely with internal teams (Client Success, Finance, AML, Risk, and Compliance) to address merchant concerns and implement dispute resolution improvements.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal chargeback handling tools and recommend potential enhancements.
    • Collaborate with third-party providers on chargeback and fraud prevention solutions.
    • Assist in the development of risk management strategies within the Risk Department, ensuring compliance with PCI DSS standards and fraud mitigation efforts.
  • Industry Awareness & Compliance
    • Regularly monitor and review Chargeback Rules updates, card scheme bulletins, and industry developments.
    • Stay updated on emerging fraud techniques, regulatory changes, evolving payment technologies, and PCI DSS requirements.
    • Keep track of alternative payment methods and industry trends to enhance monitoring and risk mitigation strategies.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: Hands-on experience with chargeback dispute handling tools and internal monitoring systems (VROL, MasterCom, RDR, MC Collaboration Alerts).
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Card Scheme Systems (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and their Chargeback Rules & Guidelines.

  • Ability to analyze chargeback data and generate meaningful reports.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and chargeback monitoring software.
  • Prior experience in credit and financial risk analysis related to chargebacks.
  • Analytical Mindset – Ability to identify chargeback trends, patterns, and root causes.
  • Attention to Detail – Ensuring accuracy in dispute resolution, reporting, and analysis.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork – Ability to coordinate with merchants, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Communication Skills – Effectively educate merchants, liaise with card schemes, and provide clear dispute documentation.
  • Problem-Solving Ability – Develop proactive strategies to reduce chargebacks and mitigate financial risks.
  • Adaptability – Stay ahead of regulatory updates, fraud trends, and evolving payment technologies.
  • Time Management – Handle multiple chargeback cases efficiently and prioritize urgent tasks.
