Job purpose:
As a Procurement Category Manager, you will lead the strategic sourcing for energy services and auxiliaries. This role is instrumental in achieving McCain's operational goals and advancing our sustainability commitments. You will be focusing on sourcing the below needs, for our 22 plants across Europe and Great Britain:

  • Management of energy commodities and auxiliaries: electricity, natural gas, water, guarantees of origin, CO2 quotas.
  • Lead and execute the regional roadmap on renewable energy sourcing.
  • Collaborate with the global and regional sustainability and operations team, to support emissions reduction initiatives, ensuring alignment with McCain's sustainability targets.


The position demands a strong leader with expertise in energy markets, risk management, and supplier relations, as well as a passion for sustainable resource management.

Report to: Indirect Procurement Director
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy development and implementation

  • Work with the Indirect Procurement Director, and the Global Sustainability Procurement team, to develop an energy sourcing strategy. One that supports current business needs and accounts for future growth and sustainability commitments.
  • This strategy will need to account for both conventional & renewable energy sources, aligning with McCain's financial, operational, and environmental goals.
  • This role will be responsible for looking at a number of energy sources and solutions, including recent innovations and technological developments in the market. Energy sources included but are not limited to: wind, water, geothermal, natural gas, traditional electricity grid, nuclear power (large & small scale), biomass, heat exchangers and other technologies.


Risk and Spend Management:

  • Deepen McCain's understanding of energy commodity exposures and market fundamentals, to comprehend both short- and long-term market trends and developments.
  • Translate market knowledge and analytics, into monthly commodity reports and price forecast to support hedging and commodity coverage recommendations.
  • Support the financial rolling forecast process in partnership with the finance teams, including analysis of exposures, inflation, PPV, risk and opportunities.


Project Management:

  • Collaborate with sustainability and operations teams to integrate renewable energy and emissions reduction into the sourcing strategy, ensuring alignment with McCain's sustainability targets.
  • Projects include (but not limited to): Power Purchases Agreements (PPAs), solar panels and EV chargers roll out, wind turbine opportunities, biomass heating projects, geothermal on-site opportunities.
  • Run assessments along with Engineering, F&A and Manufacturing, whether on-site, renewable energy installations at McCain, should be done with in-house Capex or external service providers.


Supplier relationship management - SRM

  • Develop a standard approach to SRM across the supply base, ensuring strategic and key suppliers are managed appropriately dependent on criticality, dependency and risk.


Market Analysis and Supplier Innovation

  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and innovations within energy and environmental resources. Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and partners to introduce competitive and sustainable alternatives, including innovative technologies yet to be rolled out within McCain.
  • Leverage knowledge of market dynamics and emerging technologies to ensure McCain remains competitive and future-focused in its sourcing practices.


Relationship Management

  • Develop strong personal relationships with internal stakeholders and senior leadership across the business.
  • Deliver outstanding partner service to key stakeholders. With a view to becoming an invaluable business partner of key functions including Environment and Resource Efficiency, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, and the broader business.


HSSE, D&I & CSR

  • Embed Mccain's Health, Safety, Security policy, D&I and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies & policies, and ensure application and compliance in all sourcing activities.
  • Drive contribution of key suppliers to achieve McCain's goals


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Master's Degree, preferably in procurement, Business or Engineering.
  • 6-8 years procurement experience in the FMCG or the Food & Beverage industry, with a track record in energy sourcing and renewable energy projects management.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy markets , including renewables and carbon trading.
  • Business thinking : Able to connect business needs with external capabilities
  • Collaboration : Regarded as a constructive team player and have a strong sense of partnership behavior
  • Analytical & strategic thinking : Disciplined, data oriented to gain competitive advantage (should cost modeling & TCO approach) and able to think strategically by planning for the long term
  • 1st class interpersonal communication skills: Ability to communicate within a complex organization environment
  • Ability to influence, challenge and negotiate with wide range of knowledgeable stakeholders (suppliers and colleagues at board level)
  • Creative & Flexible : able to evaluate opportunities and respond to changing requirements in a volatile environment (agility)
  • Ability to recommend, approve and implement business allocations
  • Diversity mind-set : Ability to manage in a matrix organization and across regions and cultures
  • Fluent in English (oral/written); French or Dutch language could be a plus
  • Willingness to travel as needed
