Breaking News Reporter

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a high-energy breaking-news reporter for a role covering the fast-moving stories of the day. You will work collaboratively with reporters and editors in our bureaus and newswires to ensure we are first or fast on the stories that matter most to our readers. 

The successful candidate will be a fearless reporter who runs toward the action as soon as it happens. You will be well-versed in news and as comfortable with tracking down sources in a town you’ve never been to as working on complex issues with data and charts. You will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends. 

You will be based in New York and report to the breaking news editor.

You will:

• Monitor and report on breaking news across WSJ coverage areas

• Quickly produce clear, error-free copy.

• Ferret out sources and data on the biggest stories of the day

• Respond quickly to breaking news and be willing to travel

You have:

• At least three years’ experience in journalism 

• Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to identify and execute important stories on deadline.

• Proven writing ability

• A track record of finding unique angles on breaking stories

• A keen eye for news and the ability to write quickly, accurately and authoritatively about developments.

Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000
