Position Summary:
The Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and efficient preparation of bills and invoices for various Billing Attorneys, with a specific emphasis on immigration-related billing. Candidate should also be flexible to work overtime as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Processes client bills using Pre-bill Viewer and paper bills via Aderant software, focusing on immigration case billing
- Electronic submissions of client invoices and accruals via various e-billing websites, ensuring compliance with immigration billing requirements
- Researches and answers accounting and billing questions, with a specialization in immigration billing inquiries
- Reviews and edits pre-bills in response to attorney and secretary requests, particularly for immigration-related cases
- Executes, handles, and processes a high volume of complex bills, especially those related to immigration
- Reviews and verifies accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as required, ensuring adherence to immigration laws and regulations
- Undertakes special projects and ad hoc reports for manager as needed/requested
- Participates in appropriate mandatory training as necessary
- Assists with other department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Skills & Competencies:
- Understanding of standard accounts payable concepts, practices, and procedures, with specific knowledge of immigration law billing processes and related applications (i.e., Chrome River)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to explain complex immigration billing issues, professional demeanor and presentation
- Position requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines, effectively prioritize multiple tasks, specifically in immigration law contexts
- Candidate must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, with a focus on immigration billing
- Ability to shift priorities and manage change with a positive outcome, particularly in the context of immigration law updates
- Provide outstanding client service, meet high quality standards for services and meet or exceed client expectations, specifically related to immigration cases. Proactive in seeking innovative ways in which to help others
- Strong problem-solving skills, takes initiative and uses good judgment, excellent follow-up skills, particularly in immigration billing scenarios
- High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively, especially when dealing with complex immigration billing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and collaborate well in a team, with an emphasis on immigration case collaboration
Qualifications & Prior Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is preferred
- Minimum 3+ years’ of progressive experience as a Biller, preferably within a law firm with a focus on immigration
- Aderant software experience preferred
- Collection experience in immigration law a plus
- Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly
