Job Description
Title : Agriculture Technician - Hourly
The Agriculture Technician is responsible for assisting in the Stockton greenhouse with general duties required for producing the experimental hybrid seed necessary for continuation of the HeinzSeed breeding program. The Agriculture Technician will also assist in other routine aspects of the plant breeding program including seeding, planting, weed control, field data collection and seed saving.
Job Responsibilities:

• Perform greenhouse crop upkeep, including pruning, clipping and tying up of plants. Essential for good seed production.
• Assist in tomato hybrid crossing in the greenhouse and field. Experimental hybrids produced in the greenhouse are critical for field evaluation.
• Assist in seasonal operational tasks, such as seeding, transplanting, weed control, field soluble solids data collection, harvesting field selections and seed saving.
• Assist in various special projects and experiments (as assigned) and assist coworkers in the numerous activities required to complete the yearly cycle of research directives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Tomato production experience, preferred
• Computer skills including a knowledge Microsoft Office
• Competencies include analyzing and problem solving, innovation, improving processes, organizational skills, teamwork and effective communication skills are required in this position
• High capacity for very accurate and detailed work and the ability to explicitly follow directions/protocols
• Possess an extreme level of detail and accuracy
• Knowledge of proper timing and correct procedure of sampling fruit for lab and/or seed extraction
• Must be adaptable to changes in work scheduling due to weather interruptions and research priorities
• Must be adaptable to working in adverse weather conditions if required
• Must be adaptable to greenhouse working conditions
• Must be available to work weekends as required
