The Role
Knowledge Pele is seeking for an Agri Far,m Manager to oversee the operations of the Touwsrivier Commercial Hydroponic Farm, the Prieska Commercial Aquaculture Farm and manage the development of additional controlled agriculture projects within Knowledge Pele participant communities. The Farm Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities, including crop production, equipment maintenance, and personnel management. The candidate will be required to manage all stakeholder engagement, including landowners, suppliers, community members and market players such as off-takers, among others. The ideal candidate will have a passion for agriculture, strong leadership skills and a proven track record of successful farm management.
Job Responsibility
Strategy, Planning and Management
- Manage crops through; planning organising and supervising all aspects of crop production, including planting, irrigation, fertilisation, pest control and harvesting.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm equipment, to ensure optimal performance.
- Develop and manage budgets, monitor expenses and maximise profitability through efficient resource allocation and cost-saving strategies.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, food safety standards and other legal requirements related to farming operations.
- Maintain accurate records of crop yields, expenses and other relevant data to track performance and facilitate decision-making.
- Identify challenges and implement effective solutions to overcome obstacles related to weather, pests, equipment failures, or other factors that may impact farm productivity.
- Stay informed about new technologies, techniques, and industry trends to continuously improve farm efficiency and sustainability.
Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate meetings with all relevant stakeholders to monitor and evaluate projects implementation.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders on progress of projects.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and negotiate terms with landowners and service providers.
- Review and update stakeholder types, locations, and programmes annually.
- Staff Management
- Recruit, train and supervise farm staff, assigning duties and providing guidance to ensure productivity and adherence to safety protocols.
- Manage overall performance and effectiveness of team.
- Ensure staff members follow company policies and procedure by applying corrective measures according to the company’s code of conduct
Reporting and Administration
- Compile required reports for clients, stakeholders and projects such as Baseline assessment reports, stakeholder engagements reports, recruitment & training reports, farm productivity, financial reports etc.
- Compile and present department updates for Manco.
- Compile department updates for EXCO.
- Complete weekly/monthly timesheets.
- Complete PR Forms when and as required to do so.
- Organise travel when required to do so.
- Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Agriculture, Agribusiness, or related field.
- 2-5 years’ proven experience in farm management or related agricultural roles.
- Strong knowledge of crop production and agricultural practices.
- 2 years’ supervisory or management experience is beneficial.
- Clear understanding and experience of the National Development Plan, Sustainable Development Goals and Sustainable Development.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and farm management software.
- Physical strength and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license is essential.
