Role Overview

The individual in this position will be expected to:

  • Quickly become a trusted advisor to case teams on technology and workflows and ensure their successful execution;
  • Lead complex projects with a high degree of attorney and client satisfaction throughout;
  • Support building and lead a team of Advanced Client Data Solutions Advisors, Project Managers and Project Coordinators in the APAC region to service clients and case teams alike;
  • Assist Advanced Client Data Solutions Advisors, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators with tasks on complex projects;
  • Communicate frequently with case teams and service providers and ensure projects remain defensible, on time, and within budget;
  • Deploy analytics in complex matters and help disseminate understanding of their uses and benefits throughout the firm; and
  • Train other department members on advanced technologies and workflows, process improvement and change management, and otherwise execute the Advanced Client Data Solutions department strategy.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Help recruit and supervise Advanced Client Data Solutions Advisors, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators.
  • Assist Head of e-discovery and HLTech leadership team in establishing and enforcing policies, processes, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
  • Consult with case teams and clients to develop analytics and machine learning strategies and custom workflows, and ensure their successful execution in complex litigation and investigations.
  • Consult with case teams and clients on e-discovery technology and best practices.
  • Lead complex litigation support projects as primary point of contact and manage all activities and workflows.
  • Act as a technical advisor and conduct training on analytics, machine learning, and review tools for case teams and Advanced Client Data Solutions personnel.
  • Act as the point of contact for document review teams in the region.
  • Encourage case teams to leverage internal resources and the firm’s managed services program.
  • Maintain and improve best practices and standard operating procedures in consultation with Advanced Client Data Solutions Advisors and Team Leads.
  • Help execute on strategies for disparate data sources, including structured, unstructured, mobile, and cloud data.
  • Ensure e-discovery specifications and deliverables conform to case requirements, including with respect to processing and production.
  • Anticipate, prevent, identify, and resolve issues.
  • Maintain defensible documentation at all times.
  • Establish project milestones, provide status reports, and conduct meetings with service providers and case teams to keep projects on track.
  • Support clients on the technical elements of document preservation, assisting with data collection and extraction from cloud based systems such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Mail/Docs in a defensible way.
  • Develop cost estimates, advise clients on minimising costs, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to vendors and internal resources.
  • Assist and take initiative with firm and departmental projects as required.
  • Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Qualifications and Training

  • 7-10 years working in e-discovery or a similar background preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience leading complex e-discovery projects
  • RCA, and Relativity Analytics certifications preferred
  • Brainspace certification preferred
  • Degree in computer science, data analytics, information management, or related field a plus
  • Review management experience a plus

Skills and Experience

  • Self-starter with high levels of initiative and a pro-active approach to problem solving
  • Experience in building and managing high performing teams
  • Proficiency with Relativity and Relativity Structured Analytics
  • Experience with advanced analytics tools such as Brainspace or NexLP
  • Workflow development and execution incorporating advanced technologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of e-discovery best practices, including preservation, collection, culling, processing, review, and production protocols
  • Ability to understand the perspective and anticipate the needs of lawyers
  • Ability to build rapport with lawyers, staff, clients, and vendors at all levels
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to meet changing deadlines, work under pressure, and balance competing demands
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the big picture as appropriate on projects
  • Ability to anticipate and solve practical problems, dealing with a variety of variables where little standardization exists
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Positive and energetic demeanour
