About the apprenticeship
Our apprenticeships are site based and can take up to four years for an entry level Engineer. Engineering Apprentices work towards a technical certificate and an employer owned standard at level 3 qualification (NVQ equivalent) (MOET – Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician). You will be trained in all aspects of the manufacturing processes within our factory as well as the opportunity to develop skills within our engineering department.
In year 1 of your apprenticeship, you will be at college full time where you will start your basic training and technical certificate.
Year 2 will see you complete your technical certificate at college on day release whilst rotating around the production departments in the factory.
Year 3 you will then complete the final 12-18 months of your level 3 apprenticeship in your home department to achieve your level 3 qualification and to complete your end point assessment.
During your apprenticeship you will also undertake a HNC (Higher National Certificate in either Electrical and Electronic Engineering (including Operations, Instrumentation & Control) or Mechanical Engineering. Engineering Apprentices will also complete a further apprenticeship qualification at level 4 (Improvement Practitioner).
Final placements will be working with the equipment engineering team specialising in automation, working with PLC programming, drives and electronics. The role will be supporting the team in eradicating repetitive issue with equipment and supporting in equipment improvement projects.
During your placement, you will be allocated a mentor who will support you through your apprenticeship. You will be supported with monthly performance reviews, 12 weekly academic reviews and yearly target setting to ensure your apprenticeship is a success.
Your day-to-day duties will typically include:
- Adherence to all health and safety requirements for yourself and those around you.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to use the correct materials, tools and equipment.
- Plan and lay out work, following strict engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Preparation of blade production materials and equipment.
- Blade manufacture.
- Lean manufacturing operations.
- Quality control inspection and analysis.
- Continuous and business improvement implementation.
- Maintenance of production equipment Completion of all academic assignments within agreed timescale which will be reviewed on a regular basis.

- Supporting STEM activities including work experience, volunteering and attendance at recruitment events.
What you need to make a difference
- Five GCSE's or equivalent at Grade 4/C or above which must include Math, English Language and Science and Level 2 ICT is an advantage.
- The right commitment and enthusiasm for a career in a leading-edge engineering environment is critical.
- Possess a strong commitment and enthusiasm to the role and the apprenticeship.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and can work comfortably as an individual or in a team.
- Good manual skills.
- Experience of common Microsoft packages and good IT skills.
- Strong interest in manufacturing, engineering and technology.
- Selecting appropriate techniques, procedures and methods in manufacturing.
- Reading and understanding drawings and work instructions.
- Operating machinery associated with manufacturing.
- Application of problem solving and continuous improvement tools
