As an Actuarial Consultant for CNA Insurance, you will assist in developing actuarial pricing and rating plans for property/marine lines. You will collaborate with business partners and Actuarial leaders. In this position you will serve as an advisor to Actuarial peers by providing actuarial analyses in support of influencing pricing decisions and strategies.
For those candidates still sitting for exams, you will participate in our Actuarial Education Program which provides competitive study support and exam raises.
This position enjoys a hybrid work schedule that typically consists of 1 day per week at one of our CNA actuarial hub office locations including Radnor, PA; Chicago, IL; Warren, NJ; New York City, NY or Walnut Creek, CA.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Collaborates with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial input as needed.
  • Partners with peers, business partners and leaders to support a specific segment's strategy through the use of actionable insights and analytics.
  • Provides support in determining pricing strategy for an assigned area.
  • May create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed.
  • Proactively monitors profitability and claim trends for property/marine lines and shares results with actuarial leaders and peers.
  • Provides support to less experienced team members and help to manage projects as needed.
  • Stays up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.
  • Produces standard and special reports as needed.


May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance, actuarial and statistical concepts.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve moderately complex situations and issues.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners sometimes influencing decisions.
  • Ability to make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team, leads multiple moderately complex projects.
  • Ability to comprehend business data and metrics and to further articulate analyses of actuarial data within internal reports.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of four years of related work experience.
  • Typically at least four Actuarial exams passed, may include those with their Associateship.

In Illinois/New York/California, the average base pay range for a Senior Actuarial Consultant is $97,000 to $137,500. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
