Job Description
We’re looking for an experienced Accountant to take ownership of financial management for the PFL Group and NPDL Australia subsidiaries. In this key role, you’ll oversee accounting results, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to the NPDL Central Finance Team.
Here is some of what you will be doing:
- Own Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reports with variance analysis and ensure all group reporting deadlines are met.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with the Australian team from the various departments as well as the Accounting Line Managers in Samoa and Tonga.
- Ensure Compliance & Accuracy: Oversee corporate reporting requirements, ensuring timely and precise submissions to NPDL’s Central Finance Team.
- Reconcile & Manage Cash Flow: Handle monthly balance sheet reconciliations, weekly bank flow reconciliation, and cash flow management to maintain financial stability.
- Lead Audits & Tax Compliance: Drive yearly external audits, ensuring a clean audit result, while managing monthly tax compliance and statutory obligations.
- Optimize Commission Recharges: Manage and calculate commission recharges for the Australian subsidiaries, including preparing the summary for annual Board submission.
- Implement Best Practices: Partner with NPDL Finance to align accounting policies, processes, and controls with industry best practices.
- Support Financial Planning: Assist FP&A teams with month-end accruals, year-end budget preparation.
- Oversee Trust Accounting: Prepare and maintain the PFL Trust Foundation accounts.
- Take on Additional Responsibilities: Be ready to step up and contribute beyond the position description when needed!
Qualifications
Here’s what you’ll bring to the table:
- 3+ years of financial reporting experience in a fast-paced corporate environment, meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong technical accounting expertise with knowledge of statutory obligations, international tax, and treasury.
- Advanced Excel skills (Power BI experience preferred) and hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion Financials and/or CargoWise Finance.
- Ability to manage working in various systems undergoing transition.
- Proven ability to manage audits, including leading large group and local statutory audits to strict timetables.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, with the ability to explain numbers and business impact.
- Adaptable and proactive, thriving in an agile environment and willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
- Business partnering experience, working across departments to ensure timely financial insights and reporting.
- Ability to drive collaboration across culturally diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills—analyzing complex data, identifying solutions, and implementing corrective actions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to simplify corporate finance policies and enforce strong financial controls.
- Self-motivated and confident in juggling competing priorities, balancing independence with teamwork.
- Experience in international shipping finance (highly desirable).
- Operational finance experience in a Financial Shared Services model within an international setting.
- Willingness to travel within the South Pacific if required.
- Qualified (CA or CPA) or actively working towards certification.
- A positive, team-oriented mindset, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the workplace.
This is a full-time permanent role based in our Sydney CBD office. You will have the right to live and work in Australia at the time of applying. The successful candidate may be subject to undergo a Police Check and/or Pre-Employment Drug Test.
