Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions:

The VP Product Management is responsible for the overall ownership of the global Resins & Technology (R&T) product portfolio that includes product line management, technology roadmap and new product development, and revenue/margin growth through value creation and commercial support.  S/he will play the leading role in developing the long-term strategy of the R&T business (e.g., talent, organizational design, innovation roadmap, and action plans to enable successful achievement of strategic targets).  In direct coordination with Strategic Marketing, Sales, R&D and Operations, this individual will focus on driving market leading growth and profitability of the entire R&T product portfolio from ideation to launch. 

Primary areas of responsibility:

New Product Development / Product Launches

  • Lead Product Managers in the introduction of new products to the market and ensure customer unmet needs via Voice of Customer (VOC) are clearly understood by the team.
  • Lead Technical Road Map initiatives to prioritize product ideas and opportunities.
  • Oversee the development funnel, from ideation to launch and the development of product road maps.
  • Ensure that new product development Revenue Achievement targets are achieved in accordance with the defined processes.

Product Life Cycle Management

  • Actively and effectively manage existing product portfolio, including, phase-out, obsolescence, product enhancements, documentation, etc.
  • Regularly conduct product portfolio audit to determine opportunities for reducing part numbers and inventory in the system.
  • Analyze the product line performance, including sales, profitability, volume, inventory, and quality and work with Product Managers to drive countermeasure activities with associated cross-functions

Spec-in / Design-in

  • Understand customer’s molecular pipelines and the role the R&T products play in bringing productivity for customers.
  • Define the strategy and tactics on how to product place the R&T products into customer’s molecules and platforms to drive future profitability and growth.
  • In close collaboration with commercial and process teams, drive a focused agenda and actions, and provide support for successful spec-in / design-in of R&T products.

Value Proposition

  • Conduct VOC to understand value drivers, customer needs and pain points
  • Perform competitive analysis, including benchmarking to understand performance gaps
  • Enhance value proposition and monetize features/benefits with clear competitive advantage
  • Develop collateral and training tools to educate customers and Commercial team

Change Management

  • Work closely with Quality, R&D, Operations, and Procurement to understand all changes affecting products
  • Manage change projects according to the change management standard work
  • Notify commercial team with process change notifications, if required

Pricing Strategy

  • Develop pricing strategy according to the Life Cycle Management strategy, maximizing revenue and operating margin
  • Support annual price adjustments
  • Execute and manage structured pricing

Customer Care Resolution

  • Lead customer care resolutions from a design, application, customer use-model, and technical perspective. This includes ownership of root cause and countermeasures with collaboration of operations, quality, tech support and sales teams.
  • Work closely with the Sales, Technical Support, and Customer Service organizations to understand issues with the existing products and drives changes to ‘delight’ the customer.
  • Works closely with Quality and Operations on quality issues and owns the communication of this activity to the commercial teams and customers when necessary.

Margin Improvement

  • Identify product extension opportunities that could positively impact the top line and works with R&D to develop these opportunities.
  • Drives Value Added-Value Engineering projects through the organization that are addressing part obsolescence, quality improvements, and/or cost reduction initiatives.

Forecasting and Capacity Planning

  • Keep abreast of market trends impacting the overall business and product line
  • Conduct bi-annual forecasting (three-year forward looking)
  • Support Operations and Commercial with lead-time setting

Drive continuous improvements

  • Understand and use the foundation DBS tools, including 5S, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping and Problem-Solving Process.  Initiate and champion meaningful and sustainable kaizens that assist in achieving the business unit objectives.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or business field; MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in progressive roles in product management and/or marketing and/or commercial, and with prior experience in leading global teams.
  • Ability to work with and influence cross-functional teams driving both direct & indirect influencing and team collaboration.
  • Understanding of the customer segments, product applications for business unit’s products as well as understanding of trends that impact the product lines.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrating clear perspective and understand factors impacting our businesses and suppliers.
  • Simplifying strategy into specific actions with clear accountability, making decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information, communicating priorities clearly and concisely.
  • Able to drive through decision even when there isn’t full alignment and able to argue your point when there are many different opinions.
  • Mission-driven with high energy and a strong level of perseverance; works towards both individual and team goals.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, and possesses intellectual curiosity, agility, and resourcesfulness.
  • Partner closely with the human resources organization in developing organizational capabilities through succession planning, organizational assessment, identification of key skill gaps, talent acquisition and talent development strategies that link with business goals.
  • Identify and implement product management best practice, continouse improvement, functional excellence through DBS methodology and growth programmes.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication & presentation skills, proven both internally and externally.  Fluency in English and 1 of the Scandinavian languages. Swedish is preferable.
  • Willing to travel approximately 40% of their time.
