TITLE

VP, Global Business Strategy

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

The VP, Global Business Strategy will set strategy for Addgene’s business across different customer channels while directing the business development, marketing, sales, communications and customer service functions. This position will lead strategy and execution, and is responsible for driving revenue growth and market expansion for the organization. This is a new position that will report directly to the Executive Director and will be part of the executive leadership team.

LOCATION & POLICY ON REMOTE WORK

This position will work out of our Watertown, Massachusetts Headquarters with an opportunity to work on a hybrid schedule. Our beautiful office space has free, ample parking with a complimentary shuttle from Harvard Square and is on multiple bus lines. The cost of public transit covered by Addgene for those coming onsite 4 days a week or more.

 

The Role:

The VP, Global Business Strategy will embrace the mission of Addgene to accelerate research and discovery by improving access to useful research materials and information. The VP, Global Business Strategy will fulfill the mission by transforming the commercial functions of the organization to establish strategic goals and execute with expected results. In this position, you will establish and lead Addgene’s US and international growth strategies by launching new product offerings, introducing key account strategies and implementing international growth initiatives. You will lead the commercial organization to focus on growth initiatives to expand market penetration and enhance revenue.

To Succeed in this Role, You Will:

  • Establish an annual commercial vision and strategy focusing on academic and commercial research business opportunities for long-term success and growth.
  • Operationalize strategy by establishing an annual operating plan that articulates goals and targets with sufficient support for new initiatives, such as new product launches
  • Establish and direct a marketing and sales function 
  • Share your vision and execution plans broadly with the commercial management team as well as your executive peers to enable the organization to work collaboratively with the commercial business. 
  • Set strategy and execute business development initiatives such as partnering, licensing and IP 
  • Accountability for P&L including topline revenue and commercial function budgets; lead management and approvals of key financial elements of organizational performance such as pricing, discounting, and licensing costs in collaboration with finance.
  • Manage teams representing key commercial functions such as business development, customer engagement, material curation, market research, customer communications, and international distribution network
  • Monitor sales and distributions via monthly oversight meetings, reports, monthly catalogs to drive organizational performance
  • Support international partnerships by coordinating international distributor visits 
  • Interact with key customers both for new business initiatives and market research 
  • Develop strategies to solve logistical issues and promote market expansion

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience with cross-functional senior leadership resulting in positive organizational change both within a commercial function and across the organization
  • Experience establishing or managing marketing, sales, and business development 
  • Demonstrated experience in business development collaborations/partnerships with a talent for identifying strategic opportunities and cultivating lasting business relationships
  • Demonstrated experience leading program/project management functions or initiatives for commercial implementation 
  • Proficient in overseeing the management of key accounts and long-standing business relationships
  • Proven experience in P&L management, and leading a pricing approval process
  • Proven success in negotiating and closing major contracts 
  • Skilled in leading and hiring teams 
  • Experience in the life sciences research materials business and/or CDMO industry; experience with international markets and/or distribution
  • MBA and/or PhD preferred
