Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director, Technology Communications to lead the development of internal communications for our technology teams. This role is ideal for an individual who has a strong background in both technology and communications, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex, technical information into compelling, easily digestible narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences, including company executives. The successful candidate will work closely with technology leaders and their teams to create communications materials that highlight the impact of technical progress and articulate how technology is driving business innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communications Roadmap: Develop and implement a comprehensive communications roadmap that helps technology meet its communications objectives, aligns with business objectives, enhances cross-functional awareness, and ensures the effective flow of information across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Content Creation: Collaborate with technical teams to gather detailed technical information, and translate it into clear, engaging, and impactful messaging for executives and other internal stakeholders.
  • Storytelling for Impact: Craft and shape compelling stories that communicate the strategic significance of technical projects and advancements, focusing on how these innovations drive business impact, growth, and customer success.
  • Executive/External Communications: Craft high-impact presentations, reports, and other communications to share key updates with stakeholders outside the Technology organization. Ensure all executive-level communications reflect clarity, strategy, and vision.
  • Visual Storytelling: Develop visually engaging materials (e.g., infographics, diagrams, slides) to help explain complex technical concepts, systems, and processes in a simple and digestible manner for diverse audiences.
  • Metrics and Feedback: Regularly assess the effectiveness of internal communications efforts, using data and feedback to refine strategies, messages, and formats.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (7+ years) in communications within a technology-driven organization.
  • Strong understanding of technology and engineering concepts, with the ability to extract meaning from technical people, and digest and simplify complex technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Experience in creating high-impact presentations for senior executives, including narrative structure, visual design, and key message development.
  • Proficiency in creating visualizations (e.g., infographics, diagrams, presentations) to aid in the explanation of complex ideas.
  • A collaborative mindset and experience working in cross-functional teams and managing relationships with technical, operational, and leadership teams.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and take ownership of communications initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience with communication platforms (e.g., intranet, collaboration tools, internal newsletters) and familiarity with data analytics tools to measure impact.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with digital transformation initiatives and how to communicate these shifts internally.
  • Familiarity with Agile or other technology development methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
