The Opportunity
MetLife's new Vice President, Global Actuarial, Reinsurance and Treasury Technology leader will play the key engineering leadership role in spearheading the organization's efforts in optimizing functional processes through innovative technology solutions. This role entails driving the implementation of Agile methodologies and development practices, ensuring that the IT product and engineering teams effectively execute multi-phase initiatives from conception to final delivery and maintenance.
This leader will partner closely with the offices of MetLife's Chief Actuarial Leader, Chief Treasury Officer, and the Global Reinsurance Leader to establish modern, technology-driven corporate functions and operating models that empower colleagues across disciplines to work more effectively and efficiently. Leveraging product-led agile delivery approaches and integrating this engineering team with each business function, this individual will help adopt an iterative approach to continually finds ways to empower MetLife's functional professionals through enhanced technology capabilities and to keep MetLife ahead of the continually evolving regulatory landscape.
As the head of technology supporting MetLife's functions, this individual will oversee a portfolio of interconnected applications and the team tasked with solution design, demand/capacity planning, resource allocation, release planning, and timely delivery of initiatives. This individual will partner with colleagues across these functional areas to build strategic roadmaps for their respective departments and drive the entire portfolio to agile delivery. MetLife is on a journey to a fully agile technology organization that leverages leading technologies (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, etc.) where possible, and this individual will also play a critical role in accelerating these transformative efforts across MetLife's technology function more broadly.
The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in actuarial science, financial risk management, and technology, capable of guiding teams through complex challenges while delivering impactful results. The role is accountable for the high-quality deliverables as defined in the product roadmap, for the engineering and operational metrics and for operating within meeting financial parameters.
How You'll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic direction and leadership across people, finance, process, and technology dimensions, ensuring alignment with the organization's long-term goals and value streams.
Agile Implementation: Champion Agile practices, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the Corporate Systems Technology organization.
Program Management: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of technology initiatives, creating detailed plans, schedules, and resource allocations while maintaining transparent communication regarding project status.
Technical Delivery : Responsible for end-to-end, long-term lifecycle and technical direction of IT product engineering teams including multi-phased initiatives from original concept through final implementation and maintenance; creating plans, schedules, estimates, allocation of people, and status sharing in an Agile environment.
Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with the product roadmap, operational metrics, and financial parameters, holding teams accountable for their performance.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to refine objectives and enhance product offerings, driving measurable value for the business.
- Strategic planning incorporating emerging technology trends, industry standards, regulatory, and legal considerations culminating in technology roadmaps to drive business partner decision making.
- Serve as a strong change agent and a visionary leader with the ability to lead and inspire technology professionals to succeed in a fast-changing market, keeping the team focused on breakthrough strategies and tactics to best leverage the resources of the company.
- Partner and influence stakeholders at the senior most levels in the organization (EVP and SVP leaders); participate in strategic planning boards and discussions and be the trusted technology partner.
- Develop and implement the purpose and strategy based on the business partner objectives across all domains; align goals, execute flawlessly.
- Proven ability to apply broad industry knowledge and external perspective toward structuring and executing solutions to complex business problems, bringing forward a range of technology solutions, third party vendors, and direct advisory.
- Deliver global technology solutions for large, complex programs focused on end-to-end technology capabilities support actuarial processes.
- Lead design, development and testing of modeling capabilities while implementing best practices for model end to end automation, support, testing and monitoring for accuracy.
- Responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating IT-related risks to ensure the integrity and availability of information assets.
- Manage investing in the business initiatives as well as running the business through tight focus on operating expense and transparency of costs with the business; manage alternate sourcing arrangements for efficiency and align to global allocation models.
- Drive forward the DevOps and agile methods to simplify processes, increase automation and speed of delivery.
- Continually recruit, retain, rotate, develop a diverse team to ensure new technologies and innovation are forefront for the team. Foster a culture of technical excellence, focus on value, and prioritization. Be a talent magnet.
- Lead the technical strategy and roadmap creation for a business unit of products, focused on building the Solution capabilities aligned to the Solution strategy. Acting as bridge between technical and Solution Leaders.
- Leading Solution Architecture strategy and align team to technical product areas building expertise and technical thought leadership.
- Manage and resolve interdependencies, risks, conflicts, and impediments.
- Plan and leads team to implement audits and controls to identify and prevent future IT and operational risks, which includes Application Security and Currency.
- Responsible for IT Vendor relationships and contracts. Leads negotiations with vendors for best in class pricing, and benchmarks costs.
- Optimize Product/Business Unit software delivery through continuous focus on software development, maintenance metrics and KPIs.
- Key partner with business, advocating for prioritization technology solutions in the Agile Delivery model. Lead user centric design and agile development life cycle.
- Develop and manage the product budget including maintenance, infrastructure and annual discretionary portfolio of projects with Product Area Manager/Business Unit Leader.
- Thought leader on emerging technology trends and capabilities that align to a large Product portfolio. Deep understanding of the business' way of working to close any gaps in operationalizing day to day activities. Works closely with technology vendors to influence features and roadmaps that align to business needs.
- Ensuring the team has the technical competencies to meet the product capability needs aligned to the customer.
- Matrix management responsibility for cross functional team members aligned to product team that includes performance management.
- Manage approximately 12 direct reports and a team of approximately 300 FTEs and contractors.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
Ten years of technology leadership experience Experience in function-level technology leadership roles (e.g., head of risk/legal/compliance platforms).
Five years of experience managing Treasury platforms Experience with market, credit, and/or operational risk platforms (e.g., Kyriba, payment platforms)
Five years of experience managing finance and treasury technologies Experience with quantitative modeling platforms such is Polysystems & Prophet and ability to understand and explain complex quantitative concepts and end-to-end models/systems.
Five years of experience in the financial industry Experience in regulated insurance or banking sectors would be ideal.
Experience leading an application portfolio modernization program Experience modernizing a portfolio of applications and adopting cloud capabilities.
Experience with modern technology capabilities and methodologies Experience with product-led agile delivery, generative AI, public cloud, microservices architectures, deep data experience and exposure to capabilities such as databricks, alteryx, etc.
Team leadership experience of organizations of more than 100 employees Experience including full-time, contract, and vendor colleagues.
Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred
-Preferably with STEM concentration (i.e., computer science or engineering).
-Prior experience with actuarial model development with proven track-record for driving process improvements and the ability to connect work to desired outcomes
-Experience with delivery in agile working style.

The salary range for applicants for this position is $213,200 - $284,300 (This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives.).
