Daimler Truck North America is the market leader and thrives as the voice of the trucking industry. This position is located in Portland in Daimler Trucks' Software Verification and Release Management department. As part of the Truck Technology - Software organization, the Software Verifcation and Release Management department is responsible for ensuring all software and electronics across Daimler Trucks global platforms is delivered to our customers with the highest quality. As our vehicles grow in capability, especially in the areas of Connectivity, eMobility, Automated technology, Fuel Efficiency and Safety, our team is critical to the successful integration of an increasingly complex, safe and secure vehicle network. The HiL (Hardware in the loop) is a lab environment where all vehicle electronic control units (ECUs) are connected similar to on-vehicle and then integration tested. We are responsible for supporting Engineering in the overall ECU and Feature system integration for global platforms and the Freightliner and Western Star Brands.
As an Virtual Testing System Integration Engineer, you will bring your enthusiasm and creativity, supporting the Truck Technology Software department to enable vehicle features on a Software-in-the-loop and Hardware-in-the-loop test platform. You will drive projects and provide requirements to hardware and modeling engineers to provide comprehensive test coverage to vehicle features and function. In addition, you will interface with feature, system and component developers to ensure functionality on the HiL is representative of the end use. To be successful in this role, you must bring a strong ability to troubleshoot vehicle software systems and perform root cause analysis on failures.

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 - $110,000 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA
- Lead virtualization of electronic components and systems into the full vehicle integration HiL.
- Establish appropriate virtualization strategies for ECUs in a real-time HiL environment that match the test goals of the HiL platform.
- Work with cloud infrastructure teams to develop virtual testing platforms and continuous integration and continuous deployment tools to improve uptime and scalability of HiL/SiL test capability.
- Meet with feature owners to understand specific requirements for feature testing, and develop new platforms that meet their needs.
- Support ECU engineers & Suppliers in working through defects, implementation challenges, and validation topics.
- Develop virtual and hybrid testing strategies for software-defined vehicle architectures
Knowledge You Should Bring
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Software, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and prefer 2-5 years of relevant experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills who has excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. This person has the ability to accomplish tasks with the highest standards of ethics while having a proven track record of developing strong working relationships with colleagues.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles with proven ability to apply technologies, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of vehicle electronic systems or related engineered components.
- Working knowledge in automotive software and electronic architecture
- Understanding of engineering processes & downstream impacts.
- Experience with identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills & ability to communicate effectively, especially in cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, virtualization, or simulation
- Demonstrated ability to lead small projects.
- Well organized, able to handle multiple, detailed tasks, and work professionally with various levels of management.
- Demonstrated self-motivation, with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with programming / scripting (C/C++, object-oriented programming, Java) - Experience with vehicle networks, especially CAN & Automotive Ethernet
- Experience with vehicle diagnostic communication protocols
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
- Experience in the commercial heavy duty vehicle systems
- Experience with automotive electrical architecture system integration
- Experience in HiL or model based validation of automotive systems and features
- Experience in interpreting SW functional requirements and developing/documenting test plans - Experience in moderate to complex application of data analytics to test results
- Experience with CANape and CANalyzer
- Experience with HiL testing using dSpace, ETAS or similar
- Experience with ECUtest or similar test automation environment for HiL systems
- Understanding of engineering processes and downstream impact on production processes
- Experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives in area of responsibility
- Experience working cross-functionally via project involvement
