Nexstar Media Inc., America’s largest local broadcasting company, is seeking a Vice President and General Manager to lead its media properties in Elmira (DMA 178) and Binghamton (DMA 162) in New York’s “Southern Tier”. The General Manager will have full oversight of Nexstar’s operations at WIVT (ABC)/WBGH (NBC) in Binghamton and WETM (NBC)/WETM 2 (IND) in Elmira, as well as MyTwinTiers.com, Binghamtonhomepage.com and all other digital, mobile and social media assets for the station.
Our stations in the region have a long tradition of supporting the community with the best local news, weather, and sports in the market. WETM’s local news has long been the dominant market leader, regularly delivering twice as many viewers as its competitors combined. Our stations offer a wide variety of local programming, including high school sports, holiday parades, and live political debates.
Binghamton is the birthplace of IBM and home to nationally known companies like Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems, which provide a stable economic workforce for the region. Binghamton is also ranked by Forbes Magazine as one of the most affordable housing markets in the U.S. and is home to the PGA Tour Champions “Dick’s Sporting Goods Open” each August. The Elmira/Corning market is home to the corporate headquarters of Corning Incorporate, a Fortune 500 company. Additionally, the region’s tourism industry continues to grow with the openings of wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the Finger Lakes region.
For the right individual, this is an opportunity to join the largest local broadcasting group in the nation and oversee four television stations coupled with digital and mobile platforms across adjacent DMAs. This is a unique opportunity to identify creative opportunities to better serve local viewers and advertisers across the Southern Tier while guiding two local broadcast operations to new heights.
The successful candidate will have five years of broadcast leadership experience with a successful track record in leading sales driven organizations and developing revenue across multiple platforms, as well as providing leadership by developing department heads and promoting teamwork within all station departments.
In addition, a track record of success in maintaining a focus on the bottom line, and a broad range of programming experience with an emphasis on localism is essential.
