ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the SVP, Strategy & Consulting, this role serves as the head of strategy for Pfizer's U.S. Primary Care and Specialty Care Business Units (BUs), which are part of our overall U.S. Commercial Division. The Primary Care BU spans Pfizer's commercial efforts in Internal Medicine, Vaccines, and Antivirals, while the Specialty Care BU covers Inflammation & Immunology, Rare Disease, and our Hospital portfolio. These BUs are responsible for executing the U.S. commercial strategy across these TAs/products and are accountable for the U.S. P&L for these businesses.
The role of the strategy lead is to help shape, develop, and enable execution of strategies to advance and grow these businesses in support of Pfizer's overall growth ambitions. These business strategies include key U.S. brand/market priorities and cover a broad range of in-line and late-stage pipeline assets in support of patient needs across the world. While this position organizationally reports into the Strategy & Consulting team, this person will work closely with the Chief U.S. Commercial Officer, the Presidents of the two BUs, and their leadership teams to address key business challenges, opportunities and define the top strategic priorities to grow the business in the short and long-term.
The role has four main accountabilities:
1) Facilitate development of the U.S. commercial strategic plan, 2) Manage a portfolio of strategy projects related to key issues, business priorities and products, 3) Provide insights into market and competitive dynamics that could impact business performance or strategic direction, and 4) Lead a team of strategy colleagues who will support these projects. From time to time, this role may also be called upon to lead important cross-divisional commercial strategic initiatives.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with the Chief U.S. Commercial Officer, their leadership team and relevant corporate functions to develop strategies across the US Primary and Specialty Care businesses. Identify key strategic imperatives and capabilities required to achieve these imperatives.
- Facilitate completion of in-year and multi-year commercial strategic plans, as well as implementation plans that enable robust execution of these strategies. Support the annual divisional operating plan process, as needed.
- Lead or actively participate in a portfolio of projects that provide insight and direction on key levers such as market development, customer needs assessment, patient segmentation, competitive advantage, market and/or product prioritization and go-to-market model. Actively analyze and translate impact of these levers into appropriate financial measures (e.g., revenue growth, margin, ROI, etc.)
- Provide perspectives on the potential impact of external market and competitive signals that could impact future business performance.
- Develop and apply deep expertise in market dynamics across all relevant Therapeutic Areas, Disease Areas, Products and Patient segments to identify key trends and appropriately assess opportunities to guide the overall strategic direction of the Division and its BUs.
- Engage with BU leaders and/or corporate function leads to understand business needs and evaluate key opportunities.
- Develop external relationships that provide outside-in perspectives on key aspects of the BU's portfolio and scope of activities.
- Collaborate with other strategy leads to identify cross-Pfizer alignment opportunities or synergies across strategic imperatives.
- Actively participate as a member of the Strategy & Consulting leadership team, helping shape the priorities and direction of this critical function.
- Lead and manage a team of 10-11 colleagues (incl. people managers), coaching and developing them to build capabilities and deliver exceptional performance.
- Create an engaging, productive, and balanced work environment where team members are encouraged and motivated to collaborate and excel.
- From time to time, manage and provide oversight and direction to teams from external strategy consulting firms.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA or other advanced degree with 13+ years of experience, or BA/BS with 15+ years, including experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry. Understands trends in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, aware of competitor strategies, knowledge of healthcare dynamics in the US and other major global markets, as well as understands key aspects of drug development, commercialization, lifecycle management and business development processes.
- Ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders at all levels of the organization (ELT, BU Presidents, BU leadership team members, and functional counterparts). Must be able to influence executive leaders in Commercial and R&D.
- Ability to simultaneously lead a broad and complex set of strategic initiatives sponsored by ELT and ELT-1 leaders and be able to effectively connect the dots/ identify synergies across these initiatives.
- Strong learning agility and able to understand the nuances of different TAs/DAs, products/franchises, and regions/markets to deliver rigorous and tailored solutions.
- Demonstrates strong strategic thinking skills, as evidenced by the ability to identify and develop relevant strategic frameworks, alternative scenarios, analyze implications, and develop recommendations for direction or action.
- Ability to understand and translate market and competitive dynamics into strategic implications for the BUs and bring a growth mindset to key strategic projects.
- Strong understanding of finance and P&L implications of any strategy.
- Ability to work with complex information (both quantitative and qualitative) and distill into frameworks that help facilitate ideation and decision-making.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead without direct authority.
- Exceptional communication/presentation skills and executive presence sufficient to effectively address ELT members, BU leadership, and external audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Life sciences or healthcare-related degree helpful.
- Prior experience in strategy consulting strongly preferred.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $280,400.00 to $467,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
