The Vertical VP of Software Engineering plays a pivotal role in leading and guiding the software engineering and product development teams to deliver high-quality software products in alignment with the company's strategic objectives. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of software development and product management, from concept to delivery across multiple Business Units. The work will be dynamic and wide-ranging, driving the development, deployment, scaling, and evolution of our products and future product offerings. You will be an integrated, integral, member of the senior leadership team, shaping product trajectory and evolution. In this role, you will be a senior leader within the practice management organization and will report to the Group President. You will be responsible for executing and shaping product strategy as defined by executive leadership, managing a portfolio of products, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring products to market. You will oversee the day-to-day product/development activities, prioritize resources, and ensure product goals are met.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Own the product roadmap and develop and implement a product strategy for Fullsteam’s Practice Management product portfolio that aligns with the company's mission, goals, and market trends. 
  • Drive product innovation and differentiation through continuous improvement, feedback loops, and experimentation. 
  • Establish performance metrics and KPIs to track product success, adoption, and customer satisfaction. Champion and drive data-driven decision making to inform product decisions, ensuring efficacy and user satisfaction. 
  • Manage the product lifecycle from ideation to launch, ensuring products meet quality standards and are delivered on time and within budget. 
  • Build and empower high-performing teams. You will lead and mentor product managers, designers, developers, and other stakeholders to to define, prioritize, and execute the product roadmap and deliver exceptional products. 
  • Identify and unlock opportunities via exploration of new product areas and initiatives, driving innovation and growth. Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify market opportunities, trends, and customer needs. 
  • Foster a collaborative culture as you bridge silos and establish strong partnerships across various departments/business to drive product success. 
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to drive product strategy and vision, define requirements, and guide teams of product managers, designers, and data analysts through the development process. 
  • Execute product commitments effectively to consistently deliver meaningful impact to the business. 
  • Continuously experiment to validate new hypotheses and optimize conversion towards product goals. 
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to resolve dependencies and identify collaboration opportunities. 
  • Participate in the development of corporate strategy, applying functional expertise to test the viability of the strategy and contributing creative ideas and insights to support the strategy formation process. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers, product managers, and related professionals.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the teams.
  • Collaborate with senior management to define the software and product development strategy.
  • Align software development and product roadmaps with the company's overall business goals.
  • Drive the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch.
  • Work with product managers to define product requirements and ensure they align with market demands and customer needs.
  • Oversee software architecture, design, and development, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Implement best practices, methodologies, and technologies to improve software development processes.
  • Lead resolution of production system bugs and drive blameless root cause analysis and system/process improvement in response to service disruptions.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines.
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, train, and retain top software engineering and product development talent.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance and testing procedures to ensure software products meet high-quality standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, sales, and customer support, to ensure a holistic approach to product development and delivery.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges in the software, software development, and product delivery and proactively address them.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as PCI, SOC2 type2, HIPAA, SOX, and ISO27001 as applicable to the business.
  • Working knowledge and experience establishing or participating in HIPAA Security and Privacy programs.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for software and product development teams.
  • Regularly report on progress and areas for improvement to senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in leading successful product and development teams and delivering impactful results in a high-growth environment. 
  • Deep technical knowledge and understanding of software development methodologies, technologies, and trends.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams, build trust, and foster a collaborative culture while messaging about how people's efforts make a difference to the broader organization. 
  • A track record of delivering significant product features and enhancements. 
  • Analytical thinking and a strong understanding of using data to inform product decisions. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to address complex challenges. 
  • Commitment to exploring innovative solutions and tackling challenges beyond the immediate product area. 
  • Effective communication skills with senior management and executive teams, ability to articulate product roadmap, progress, and evolution to key stakeholders, including executive leadership. 
  • A humble, collaborative, and team-first spirit focused on team growth and a passion for mission and innovation. 
  • Ability to break down ambiguous problems to well-reasoned and novel solutions. 
  • Willingness to explore and own initiatives outside the scope of your product area. 
  • Proven ability to present your team’s work to senior management/executive teams. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant industry certifications.
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements (if applicable to the industry).
  • Experience in building and launching SaaS (Software as a Service) products.
  • A proven track record (10+ years) of leading product management teams and overseeing the development and launch of successful products with an in-depth knowledge of product management best practices, methodologies, and tools. 
  • Experience leading and mentoring multiple product management teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Effective communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential. 
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of customer needs and preferences, using customer insights to shape product strategies, features, and user experience that drive customer satisfaction and retention. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and product management best practices to drive innovation and competitive advantage. 
  • Familiarity with Healthcare IT vendor ecosystem particularly around electronic health records/billing, enterprise application architecture and business intelligence.
