About the Role
The R&D Tax Assistant Manager will be responsible for the delivery of R&D tax relief services to clients. This role requires a deep understanding of the UK R&D tax incentives and regulations, the ability to lead client engagements along with senior support, in delivering high-quality R&D claims. The R&D Tax Assistant Manager will work closely with clients across various industries to identify and document eligible R&D activities, ensuring compliance with HMRC guidelines and maximizing tax relief opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver R&D tax projects for a portfolio of clients, ensuring the successful delivery of claims within deadlines, where delegated.
- Liaise with clients to gather relevant information, understand their R&D activities, and explain R&D tax relief principles in an accessible way.
- Prepare and present detailed reports outlining R&D projects and claims to clients.
- Provide technical knowledge and guidance on R&D tax incentives and tax relief legislation, keeping up to date with changes to the R&D tax credit regime and HMRC guidelines.
- Ensure claims are accurate and comply with the latest HMRC rules and regulations.
- Identify and assess client R&D activities to determine eligibility for tax relief, ensuring proper documentation and evidence are provided.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of R&D tax claims and ensure the quality of work meets the firm's standards.
- Coordinate and oversee the completion of multiple R&D claims simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines and client expectations are met.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., tax, audit) to ensure seamless service delivery and optimise the overall client experience.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience in R&D tax, either in an advisory or in-house role.
- Experience working with clients across a variety of sectors (e.g., life science, technology, engineering) is highly desirable.
- Strong technical understanding of R&D tax relief, including current legislation, HMRC guidelines, and industry best practices.
- A relevant degree or professional qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, or similar) is preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders.
- A keen eye for detail and a strong analytical mindset.
- Self-motivated with a proactive attitude toward solving problems and driving improvements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced and changing environment.
