About the role

Lead day-to-day trek operations throughout the Cuzco region, to ensure a high level of performance and sustainable growth in the region. This role is ultimately responsible for overall traveler satisfaction and Safety on all treks or similar field experience in Cuzco. It is responsible for the management of all trek staff (porters, cooks, herdsmen…) and all suppliers involved in our trek operations.  Excellent leadership skills, product & destination knowledge, customer service, teamwork and communication skills are key to the success of this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  •  Ultimately responsible for the customer experience of treks, mainly on the Inca Trail, Lares Trek, Salkantay and Choquequirao trek, but not limited to.

  • Manage and schedule reporting staff as well as cooks, herdsmen and porters. Organise the yearly recruiting, selection and training of all trek staff. Allocate and manage staff resources accordingly throughout the year.

  • Daily review of traveller evaluations for treks within the region. Report on and record them for future improvement

  • Use data from internal systems to evaluate performance and quality and to plan for improvements

  • Leadership, development and management of the Logistic Trek Team. Conduct annual performance evaluations with reporting personnel

  • Be an ambassador of the G Adventures culture and lead by example for reporting staff, Trek Guides, and CEOs

  • Ensuring the G Adventures brand and other client brands are properly represented throughout our trek operations.

  • Development and Implementation of new and changed products as required by the corresponding Brand Product team.

  • Be innovative and bring forward new product/service opportunities. Make sure the Sungate Catalogue of products remains updated.

  • The health and safety of our travelers and staff on the treks is our priority. Implement health and safety training/procedures for cooks, porters, herdsmen and travellers in conjunction with the Inka Warrior Supervisor. Ensure those are applied and regularly audited. Ensure all groups run with the correct safety equipment in place.

  • Coordinate and assist in ground support for logistical issues during trips and assume a lead role in Critical Incident Management (CIM) in the field, managing local emergency procedures as required.

  • Implement and manage a reliable inventory system for all trek equipment, including a system to identify faulty equipment and its replacement.

  • Create and manage a long-term strategy for forecasting and budgeted equipment to be presented regularly to the Cuzco Operations Manager and Latam General Manager.

  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers in conjunction with the Cuzco Operations Manager to ensure we have access to the best product/rates available on the market.

  • Develop processes by analyzing logistical opportunities and producing new solutions in conjunction with the Cuzco Operations Manager.

  • Work closely with the Customer Service/Operations team to manage the rental equipment required for the travelers. Identify new rentals/sales opportunities.

  • Propose and develop continuous improvement strategies for field operations that contribute to the development and well being of personnel , environment care, animal welfare and others..

  • Continually improve and develop relationship performance with the Inca Trail regulators: SERNANP and Ministry of Culture, among others.

  • Organise our Yearly Xmas in the Community event, Football championship, Inca Trail cleaning.

  • Coordinate and implement work plans within the office to ensure its maintenance and smooth overall functioning. 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience working in logistics and warehouse trek management positions, tourism industry and travel industry preferred.

  • Advanced level of English and Spanish - both written and verbal - Quechua speaking would be great.

  • Ability to lead and motivate others in a team

  • Analytical Thinker with a positive and innovative attitude

  • Ability to consult, negotiate and influence others

  • Confident, engaging and able to relate to people at all levels

  • Ability to work independently with initiative and possess confidence in decision making

  • Highly motivated with the ability to handle a heavy workload in a fast-paced and challenging environment

  • Detail oriented multi-tasker with strong organization and office administration skills

  • Strong and effective communicator using patience and compassion

  • High knowledge of the Peru region, specifically: Cuzco, Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, Lares Trek, Salkantay and Choquequirao treks.

  • Proficient knowledge of computers, email and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Excel and Google Sheets is mandatory.
