Job Description

Basic Duties and Responsibilities:The Shipping/Wave Planning Supervisor will oversee shipping operations and the planning and organization of work-flow within the distribution center to meet business needs for multiple clients. The wave planning duties include coordinating orders from multiple business divisions with customer service, operations, and transportation resulting in organized waves of work-flow to drive operations. Wave planning also oversees tracking the progress of waves, releasing work to the floor, working closely with the operations management team in driving key business decisions. The shipping supervisory responsibilities manage productivity, on-time delivery, quality, safety KPI’s.This position oversees hourly and temp employees. It requires the ability to perform all responsibilities in a safe, accurate and timely manner in accordance with Safety policy & procedures, Quality and the principles of 6S3Q, and time standards. Regular attendance is a mandatory requirement due to the nature of the role.Position reports to the DC Manager, working as part of the Southaven management team to drive continuous improvement using metrics to achieve logistics excellence in service, quality and cost.Job Description:The role of the Shipping/Wave Planning Supervisor is to lead Distribution Center Wave Planning and Control and oversee the execution of corporate transportation strategy for Southaven CSC shipments. The Traffic Supervisor will perform and oversee the planning and organization of the priority of work flow throughout the distribution center to meet business needs in a multiple client distribution environment. The Traffic Supervisor will interact with multiple business divisions with Customer Service, DC Operations, Corporate Logistics and Carriers resulting in organized waves of work flow presented to distribution operations. This position will oversee wave control tracking and releasing of work for order fulfillment. Maintaining an open line of communication with the operations management team as well as assisting in communication of key business decisions is essential.ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising warehouse operations by driving productivity and achieving on time delivery targets.
  • Provides a thorough understanding of all warehouse operations, processes and systems to be able to proactively manage and work independently on issues in a timely manner and provide accurate resolutions.
  • Interact with Team Leads to apply sound communication and motivational techniques with warehouse staff.
  • Effectively communicate with external resources including customer service and suppliers.
  • Work with the Warehouse Business Systems Manager to monitor, promote and ensure current and accurate inventory control.
  • Lead continuous improvement of service, quality and cost management leveraging lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collection of data/statistics and preparation of reports required by the Warehouse Operations Manager
  • Ensure proper management of timekeeping and payroll duties.
  • Supervise departmental Team Leads and employees and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Building and executing productivity plans and goals by reviewing work forecasts, determining productivity requirements, and partnering with other Area Managers to balance labor.
  • Communicating policies to associates and act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance and consistency and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Leading, developing, and driving engagement of a team of hourly associates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 (two) years direct experience in warehouse supervision.
  • 7 (seven) years or more experience in warehousing/logistics required.
  • Experience in wave planning and/ or wave control is preferred along with working with carriers of a variety of modes.
  • 7 (seven) years of experience utilizing WMS and MS Office in a fast-paced work environment.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems, WMS, in large scale distribution operation. 
  • Previous experience with WMS in Microsoft Dynamics and ORACLE environments a plus.
  • Computer literacy to include Warehouse Management Systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer) PC skills at an advanced level; systems knowledge at an intermediate level. 
  • Communication Skills – Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization to include customer service, sales, finance, employees and managers.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner; ability to respond and re-prioritize as customer service needs dictate.
  • Ability to develop working relationships with others and be a subject matter expert or ‘go-to’ for the department.
  • Basic understanding and ability to support international exports.
  • Multi-task within a fast pace environment.
  • High level of integrity.
  • High degree of accuracy; extreme attention to detail, strong problem solver, able to create solutions to challenges in an expedient manner.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Flexibility to adjust shifts with business needs. 
  • Ability to work daily or weekly overtime as needed; to include nights, weekends as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Position requires sitting, walking, stooping, bending, talking in person and by phone or video; the stamina to work the shift as scheduled and on a regular basis, ability to work in a non-climate controlled facility with exposure to heat and/or cold in accordance with weather conditions, lifting large, small or awkwardly shaped items on a regular or repeated basis as needed, domestic and international travel by car, plane, train; extensive use of computer equipment. The physical demands described here and above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
