Purpose
Logistics Compliance Associate will ensure the Johor plant complies with Malaysian customs regulations,
international trade laws, and PerkinElmer’s global trade policies. Logistics Compliance Associate will
oversee all import/export activities for the Johor plant, including classification, valuation, licensing, and
customs clearance. Logistics Compliance Associate will ensure proper documentation and compliance
with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), duty exemptions, bonded warehouse, and special customs
programs.
Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Policy Implementation
- Ensure the Johor plant complies with Malaysian customs regulations, international trade laws, and PerkinElmer’s global trade policies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls tailored to plant operations.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on the plant’s supply chain and trade operations.
Import & Export Management
- Oversee all import/export activities for the Johor plant, including classification, valuation, licensing, and customs clearance.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), duty exemptions, bonded warehouse, and special customs programs.
- Manage relationships with Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), customs brokers, and freight forwarders to ensure smooth and compliant shipping operations.
- Work with logistics partners to optimize shipping routes, reduce clearance delays, and ensure cost-effective transportation.
Training & Advisory
- Provide training and guidance to plant teams, including supply chain, procurement, and logistics, on trade compliance requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison for internal and external audits related to customs and trade compliance.
Risk Management & Audits
- Conduct regular compliance audits at the Johor plant to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with government agencies (e.g., Malaysia Customs, MITI, PTP authorities) to resolve trade compliance issues and maintain good regulatory standing. Support corporate trade compliance initiatives and reporting requirements.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, warehouse, logistics, procurement, and finance teams to integrate compliance into plant operations.
- Partner with regional and global trade compliance teams to align with corporate policies and best practices.
Basic Qualifications
- Degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Law, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in trade compliance, customs, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing plant environment.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian/Singaporean trade regulations, import/export controls, HS code classification, and customs procedures.
- Experience with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), bonded warehouse operations, and duty optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with Port Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) operations, customs clearance processes, and logistics coordination.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, import/export licensing, and customs documentation requirements.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience working in SAP, and specifically the GTS module of SAP
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Preferred Characteristics
- Certification in trade compliance (e.g., Certified Export Compliance Officer, CUSECO).
- Experience in a manufacturing or life sciences industry.
- Knowledge of global trade regulations (e.g., U.S. EAR, ITAR, EU dual-use regulations)
