General Description:
The Materials & Microsystems Laboratory is seeking an experienced Thermal Mechanical Analyst to join a talented, multidisciplinary team within the Advanced Test Systems (ATS) Department to support the advancement of HRL’s world-leading silicon quantum dot technologies. This candidate will be expected to provide critical expertise in the area of thermal and dynamic analyses to inform the design of cryogenic test systems. The ideal candidate has excellent engineering fundaments in heat transfer and dynamic analyses, experience in working in multidisciplinary teams to solve challenging technical problems.
Essential Duties:
Develop detailed non-linear finite element modeling of mechanical and electrical hardware.
Analyze the thermal and dynamic performance of integrated mechanical and electrical systems, including heat load management, thermal characterization of PCBs and electronics, and mitigation of dynamic motions.
Define and support test efforts for analysis validation.
Provide key technical inputs to inform mechanical and electrical hardware design decisions.
Develop standard practices and guidelines for performing FEA and common hand calculations.
Lead junior engineers
Summarize key findings in written documents and oral presentations.
Required Skills:
Expertise with analysis and test of mechanical and electrical components.
Working knowledge of non-linear simulation tools such as ANSYS Mechanical (APDL is a plus) or COMSOL.
Creative problem solving and strong organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills; includes both oral and written.
Ability to work well in a team environment and work in a matrix organization.
Required Education:
Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or related discipline with an emphasis on heat transfer.
5+ years of professional experience (or 3+ years with a Masters degree) in an analysis based role.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work for extended periods while standing or sitting at a computer workstation.
Must be sufficiently mobile, have visual and hearing acuity, and manual dexterity to safely work within a laboratory environment.
Must be able to climb ladders to use elevated test equipment.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance. An active SSBI is a plus.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,715 - $150,895 + bonus + benefits.
