Job Description

As a Technical Writer, you will independently manage and deliver high-quality documentation projects, demonstrating expertise in QAD products and user-focused writing. What you will do:

  • Efficiently create, merge, and maintain structured product documentation and release posts for assigned product groups. Guide improvements to documentation content and processes, and suggest and balance priorities.
  • Ensure that product documentation is well organized in assigned projects by using internal and industry best practices in order to take full ownership of assigned documentation projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Actively create or improve text, such as field labels or error messages, with a focus on your assigned product(s).
  • Provide effective and efficient reviews for content created by other technical writers, based on relevant style guides.
  • Deeply understand the technology and features of the development groups to which you’re assigned, and have an advanced to expert understanding of your assigned project in order to become a subject matter expert (SME) in assigned QAD products or technology areas.
  • Contribute changes that help the organization evolve the culture and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members in order to plan and execute documentation projects effectively, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Act as the Technical Writing lead for assigned projects and products in order to exhibit leadership and collaborative traits as a Senior.
  • Mentor other technical writers and team members regarding best practices and documentation knowledge processes, and advise junior writers to have maximum workforce efficiency.
  • Be available to interview potential technical writing candidates.

Qualifications

What you need:

  • 6 or more years of experience and at least 4 focused in technical writing or a related field.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, engineering, or computer science is preferred.
  • Languages: English (Advanced/Conversational)
  • Nice to have: Certification in Technical Writing, UX Writing, Grant Writing, AI Technical Writer, Proposal Writing, XML Writing, Knowledge Management, Medical Writing and/or Documentation Engineering.

Computer skills:

  • Advanced to Expert skills in Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive) Google Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, and Atlassian tools (Jira and Confluence).
  • Advanced-level knowledge of Oxygen Editor, ePublisher, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, WalkMe or other DAP.
  • Advanced experience or knowledge using a CCMS (Cloud/SaaS and OnPrem) and CDP (SaaS).
  • Advanced experience with Google AutoML and/or other AI tools is a plus.

Other knowledge: 

  • Advanced experience in API/Developer documentation, XML (DITA and/or DocBook) writing and/or Structured Authoring.
  • Strong interpersonal and/or customer service communication skills. 
  • Experience in peer reviewing/editing is a plus.
  • Experience working with global and multicultural remote teams is a plus.
  • Strong desire to learn, develop, and grow with the organization by helping improve current standards and/or processes.
