The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for a fulltime Technical Writer based in our Macquarie, Sydney office. In this role, the successful Technical Writer provides essential information to recipients, audiologists, and surgical professionals, enabling the individual to identify and use cochlear implants, programming software, sound processors and accessories manufactured by Cochlear safely and effectively.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with Cochlear stakeholders and direct and participate in cross-functional labelling reviews to capture, resolve, and track complex requirements, for the business (e.g. marketing, clinical, D&D, manufacturing, logistics and regulatory)
  • Create labelling that is shown to be effective (from an end-user perspective), and which meets all essential business, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide clear evidence of the rationale for any changes to existing documentation, or the creation of new deliverables, including tracking and capturing feedback and actions taken.
  • Participate in significant change and improvement initiatives with particular emphasis on developing, implementing, and maintaining systems and procedures to ensure consistency of format, style, quality, clarity, and technical accuracy of labelling.
  • Implement Cochlear’s quality system through complying with and helping to enforce standard policies and procedures.
  • Provide appropriate advice and leadership for future developments and technology decisions for labelling content development.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical writing skills and strong attention to detail
  • Degree or higher qualification, preferably in communications, technical, medical field
  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders across the business and lead and participate in cross-functional collaborations.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end technical writing projects including the ability to plan workload and estimate timelines.
  • Ability to work independently on a multiple-task workload within tight time constraints and work closely with team members in a peer review environment.
  • Familiarity with common publishing software, such as Adobe InDesign.

Desired Skills

  • Experience in multi-national medical device companies or similar highly regulated, business environments.
  • Experience writing for content repurposing.
  • Experience in systematic usability testing of technical documentation.
  • Experience in component content management systems.
