Job Summary

The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for developing concise technical documentation for Adtran products from inception to release, while adhering to established departmental and company standards, including pre-established guidelines, writing style, content organization, file maintenance, tracking processes, and all release processes. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop online help, software and troubleshooting guides, as well as other project documentation as the need arises.
  • Define, gather, and analyze customer requirements for customer documentation deliverables.
  • Work with other Adtran personnel, such as Engineers, Product Managers, Project Managers, Salespersons, and Customer Support, to ensure accurate documentation of the applications or equipment that meets customer needs.
  • Use proven analytical and investigational skills to gather and interpret product information from engineering sources and create consumable content for the end user.
  • Drive SME reviews of technical publications.
  • Work independently, self-monitored, as the primary technical writer on individual projects.
  • Able to accurately estimate work effort and complete assignments on schedule.
  • Manage multiple complex projects from conception to completion, while at the same time maintaining positive, productive  relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use excellent interpersonal skills to build consensus, to shepherd novel content development through background R&D processes, and to negotiate opportune enhancements with stakeholders.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Technical Writing, Technical Communications, English, Journalism, Communications, Information Architecture, Computer Science, or Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a high-tech environment, writing for hardware or software products.
  • Solid understanding of telecommunication networking concepts and standards.
  • 5+ years of previous experience with MadCap Flare or similar XML-based authoring tools, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Windows, and Windows-based products. Experience with Markdown and Git are a plus.
  • Strong, demonstrable writing skills and diverse writing experience.
  • Excellent verbal presentation and communication skills, coupled with strong negotiation skills.
  • Practical understanding of the concepts of structured authoring and single-sourcing content.
  • Have a strong technical aptitude, a knack for troubleshooting, and great attention to detail.
  • No travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Knowledge of Internet technology a plus.
  • Knowledge of Docusaurus, markdown, Git, and processing publishing changes through Github are all pluses.
  • Experience using artificial intelligence applications for documentation purposes a plus.
  • Experience with minimalism and consolidating redundant content.
