Technical Writer, Hardware (Contract)

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer to join our Hardware Design Team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of computing hardware systems and the ability to effectively document complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences. They should have experience creating comprehensive technical documentation, developing user guides, and producing impactful material for presentations.

A knowledge of computer science concepts and, specifically, computing hardware systems is essential, and a solid grasp of ASIC and SOC architectures is preferred. Additional interest in AI and ML concepts is highly desirable, enabling the creation of precise, structured documentation for our cutting-edge hardware solutions. 

This hybrid role is based in Toronto,Ontario, Santa Clara, CA or Austin, TX.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, write, and maintain high-quality software-focused technical documentation, including Microarchitecture specifications, developer guides, system architecture overviews, high level architecture and performance specifications, Integration Guides, and Customer Reference manuals..
• Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and other Customer support teams to develop Product Requirement documents., training materials and curriculum to support product education and user adoption.
• Help develop high quality hardware implementation collateral to support test and manufacturing tools and flows. 
• Create engaging and informative presentations to support internal and external communications based on team driven feedback and requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to gather information and understand technical concepts.
• Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and accurate content that is easily understood by various audiences.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly in AI and ML, to ensure documentation remains relevant and accurate.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation processes and standards.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communication, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with curriculum development, training development, training and educational tools and materials development
• 5+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the Hardware or technology industry.
• Proven ability to create clear, concise, and well-structured documentation for complex technical topics.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with GitHub source control and using Markdown for creating documentation.
• Experience with documentation tools and software (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Confluence) is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI and ML concepts and technologies, or a strong interest in learning about them.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Compensation for all engineers at Tenstorrent ranges from $100k - $500k including base and variable compensation targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all impact the actual offer made.
