Technical Manager - Scent

Build a highly functioning team that thoroughly investigates and implements new technologies or Fragrance Solutions that delight consumer needs in a given category or applications; hire and develop direct reports that as a team will improve the performance of fragrance in the designated applications to ultimately win briefs; exceed our customer’s technical expectations when they introduce new products and formulations to ensure IFF is regarded as the most technically innovative fragrance house; lead sizable technical projects that are either proactive, go to market or analytical.

As a Fabric Care Technical Manager within the Scent Technology and Innovation team, you will be responsible to lead the development of new fragrance technologies and to develop a deep technical understand how our fragrances ingredients work in our technologies.  In addition, you will build awareness of our customers products and technologies including future trends and build knowledge on specific customers' technical needs. You will work closely together with R&D, Perfumers, SDM’s, Legal and Regulatory teams and Commercial teams and potentially with external parties to create and deliver innovative technologies.

You will be part of the Fabric Care team located in Hilversum, and will share our knowledge and learning with other teams globally

You will report to the Global Technical Director, Fabric Care based in Hilversum.

Key Responsibilities:

General

• Develop your individuals' direct reports to their maximum potential through excellent leadership, stretching goal setting, coaching and development opportunities.

• Build a relationship of trust based on technical competency with Perfumers, SDM’s, Commercial and marketing as well as technical colleagues in ST&I and R&D
• Agility to ensure the team is focused on right projects.
• Maintain excellent awareness of the Fabric Care market and market products
• Be curious about fragrance technology innovation and have passion to solve related problems

 Innovation

• Lead all aspect of projects, to deliver in time and aligned to the Fabric Care Strategy
• Present updates on key projects to senior management and stakeholders to support project decision making.
• Anticipate customer’s future technical needs
• Build industry-leading intimacy with customer’s technical staff
• Work with multi-disciplined team of Perfumers, Evaluators and Legal teams to identify and understand the challenges and mitigate the risks.
• Develop an internal IFF network that can help you and your team achieve the required capabilities. Connect with colleagues, share knowledge, and promote teamwork.

 Proactive  

• Identify and manage strategic technical programs for the category.
• Share technical guidelines and insights with perfumers and ST&I teams globally
• Set and manage partnerships with external organization.
• Build and stay updated on the technical developments of the products (literature, patents)
• Work with IFF’s legal team to protect IFF’s IP.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledgeable in Fabric Care formulations, raw materials and chemical processes Good olfactory evaluation skills (an internal test will be part of the interview process)

Required Experience:

• 3-6 years’ experience actively managing projects / team
• Proven record of managing new innovation projects
• MS in Science & Technology, Chemistry or related discipline with 8+ years’ experience working in the industrial - Coating, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods, &/or fragrance industry or
• PhD. in Science & Technology, Chemistry or related discipline with 4+ years’ experience working in the industrial - Coating, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods, &/or fragrance industry
