What will you do at Ciena?
As part of Ciena’s Brand and Editorial Team, the Technical Editor supports our content marketing efforts by providing editorial support and guidance to ensure the creation of high-quality B2B marketing content that adheres to our brand guidelines. This individual is tasked with editing both long-form and short-form marketing content across various formats, including data sheets, white papers, brochures, articles, web pages, emails, videos, presentations, banner ads, and digital and physical assets for events.
Working closely with our subject matter experts and copywriters, the Technical Editor provides feedback and consultation to enhance and improve our content, while also building consensus across key stakeholder groups regarding asset topics, formats, and direction. This person has exceptional writing and editing skills, is detail-oriented and self-sufficient, drives collaboration, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where they are required to manage multiple content and editing projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Review and edit marketing assets to enhance quality, clarity, consistency, and flow
- Correct spelling and grammar within marketing assets and ensure adherence to Ciena’s editorial style and brand guidelines
- Work with brand, legal, portfolio, and other digital teams to ensure marketing assets meet internal standards for publishing
- Provide content authors with recommendations on organization, clarity, and tone
- Create templates and guides to help writers produce marketing assets and their content components
- Stay current on new developments in technical writing, editing, publishing, and AI
- Manage tasks and information flow using our content operations platform Optimizely and ensure on-time completion of assets
- Engage freelancers for editorial support as needed
Required experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Writing, or a related field
- 8+ years of professional experience in editing and writing (preferably in technical fields such as Networking/Telecommunications, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering)
- Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills
- High attention to detail, quality assurance, and brand governance
- Strong understanding of marketing content, from high-level brand messages to product/solution-oriented communications
- Familiarity with multiple style manuals; capable of developing and refining in-house style
- Excellent communicator and collaborator who can achieve consensus among cross-functional global teams
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with tight deadlines at the same time
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and content operations platforms
Compensation and Benefits
The annual pay range for this position in the US is $89, 900 - $143, 500 USD.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
