The Tax Manager – State and Local Taxes is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of U.S. state and local tax and strategy for the organization across multiple jurisdictions in the United States. This role involves overseeing the preparation and filing of various state and local tax returns, handling audits, conducting tax research, and providing strategic tax planning and advisory services. The Tax Manager – State and Local Taxes will work closely with various departments to provide tax guidance, support, and ensuring accurate and timely tax filings
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing advice and guidance on state and local tax matters to internal stakeholders, including, but not limited to, business divisions, finance, treasury and legal teams.
- Oversee and manage the preparation, review, and filing of state and local corporate income and franchise tax returns and informational reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision (current and deferred) for the relevant legal US.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and regulations in various jurisdictions, assessing their impact on the company and ensuring timely implementation of necessary changes.
- Conduct and manage income and indirect tax audits and notices, including preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and resolving any issues or discrepancies.
- Coordinate with external advisors and tax authorities to address complex tax issues and ensure compliance with state and local tax requirements.
- Plan and execute tax projects requiring a wide scope of expertise, including due diligence projects
- Manage the preparation, review, and filing of tangible personal property tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of state and local taxes monthly, quarterly or annually
- Research state and local tax issues including nexus determinations
- Respond to inquiries and provide support for customer-related state tax issues, including exemption certificates, W-9, and taxability questions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably in a corporate environment.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification (preferred).
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
- Experience with tax research and tax planning.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE and Checkpoint
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Leadership and team management skills.
