The Systems Engineer assumes responsibility for a variety of IT functions, encompassing the design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging, and implementation of application programs that support the company's infrastructure, business processes, operations, and network-based product systems. Possessing advanced troubleshooting skills for both system software and hardware, this professional excels in resolving technical issues. Additionally, strategic planning and the development of automated solutions are within the scope of the Systems Engineer's role.
Responsibilities:
- Influences fundamental infrastructure changes both within and outside the IT department.
- Builds and maintains configuration management systems and has a deep understanding of desired state principles and tooling.
- Identifies and troubleshoots simple to moderate IT related tools and systems.
- Assists with the creation of product architecture and implementation decisions.
- Assists in the evolution, definition, and documentation of best practices for system installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
- Plans, builds, and implements system automations that improve efficiency and productivity.
- Recommends solutions for non-operational issues with services.
- Leads at least 2 simple to moderate level projects successfully (on time, goals achieved).
- Provides training and support for new methods, tools, and platforms.
- Willingness and ability to do what it takes to achieve objectives, including off-hours support to tasks.
Required Skills:
- Advanced understanding of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.).
- Intermediate knowledge of cloud computing (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Knowledge of core networking concepts and technologies (i.e., IP addressing, DNS, TCP/UDP, etc.).
- Proficient with SSH concepts (remote command execution, password less SSH, setting up SSH on new machines).
- Experience in server infrastructure management (computer, storage, virtual environment).
- Linux command line experience.
- Experience with at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, Bash, or Ruby).
- Experience with Puppet, Apache Web Server, Apache Tomcat, Subversion, Continuous Integration Servers, Wiki Administration, Trouble Ticket/Work tracking systems.
- Basic SQL query writing skills or familiarity understanding of Java.
- Understanding of Atlassian product administration and configuration.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science) or related field.
- 4+ years of relevant experience.
