Job Description:
This role will leverage global risk and control experience to support development, maintenance and evaluation of the Sustainability Reporting for Finance framework and creation of supporting documentation to ensure the ongoing adherence of Mars, Incorporated to current and yet-to-be-launched global standards.
A strong understanding of business processes, how to evaluate financial risks/controls, how to create process documentation and how to define internal control procedures are key to the role. Experience at a company that have applied SOX in an efficient and effective manner would be very helpful.
It will require significant project management responsibilities to ensure that ongoing initiatives are rolled out according to pre-defined timelines and that potential challenges are identified and escalated in a timely manner.
This is a key role to ensure that Mars, Incorporated maintains high standards of internal control and governance, risk, and compliance in an efficient and effective manner. It is critical that the individual in this role take ownership for not only the process, but the outcome of the process and drive positive change and improvement at a fast pace.
The ideal candidate will have strong functional/technical and analytical skills as well as attention to detail required for managing this complex area. The candidate should also have the ability to influence without authority and the organizational and project management skills to support the management of a global initiative requiring interfaces with many associates around the world.
What are we looking for?

Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Sustainability, Accounting, Finance, or Business) required

CPA, or equivalent, a plus

4-5 years of experience in sustainability, accounting, finance or risk & control roles

Experience in ESG/Sustainability reporting, compliance, or sustainability initiatives

Understanding of global Sustainability frameworks and reporting standards including CSRD and ISSB.

Experience with privately owned, global, decentralized organization

Experience with Big 4 public accounting, CPG, manufacturing, or service-based industries

Experience with business processes and controls, including opportunities for automation and standardization

Experience with one or several of the following: COSO, COBIT, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)

Experience with Workiva ESG module would be helpful
What will be your key responsibilities?
1. Sustainability Reporting Governance & Controls
Governance
- Support coordination across all metric owners to ensure governance, control, and high-quality data resulting in a robust Sustainability report. Identify data trends, insights and recommendations
- Support development and implementation of a risk-based approach to prioritizing highest-risk Sustainability reporting areas
- Support development and management of reporting calendar and coordination of reporting requirements with Sustainability teams, Corporate/Public Affairs, and others
Controls
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the Sustainability Controls Implementation (SCI) program, ensuring the control framework covers all metrics and related processes. This includes identifying risks specific to each metric, determining the related controls required to mitigate those risks, and identifying the control owners
- Develop process documentation, create test plans, assess test results, and establish remediation plan
2. Sustainability Reporting Tool - Workiva
- Assist with the development of sustainability metrics within Workiva, ensuring that all metrics in each sustainability report are accurately created and managed within the tool
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Reporting Sr. Manger to ensure smooth and efficient data collection for each report
- Support the Sr. Manager in developing tailored Workiva training for various user groups.
- Become a subject matter expert on Workiva, learning the platform in-depth to serve as the go-to resource.
- Support the Senior Manager by gathering data and documentation to ensure compliance with mandatory sustainability reporting requirements.
- Assist in conducting research on sustainability reporting practices, contributing to the development of recommendations and improvements.
- Help track the progress of mandatory reporting processes, providing status updates to the Senior Manager and other relevant stakeholders.
3. Mandatory Reporting and Data Validation
- Support the Senior Manager by gathering data and documentation to ensure compliance with mandatory sustainability reporting requirements.
- Assist in conducting research on sustainability reporting practices, contributing to the development of recommendations and improvements.
- Help track the progress of mandatory reporting processes, providing status updates to the Senior Manager and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support development and tracking of certifications for CFOs to confirm compliance with reported data as a part of their annual/quarterly compliance checks
5. Sustainability Communication and Education
- Support the Sustainability Reporting Senior Manager and Sustainability Reporting Director with preparing communication of key Sustainability reporting metrics. In addition, support responses to any key Sustainability surveys.
- Support design and launch of Sustainability training program
- Maintain Teams community to foster engagement, track Sustainability needs and frequently asked questions, ensuring consistency in responses
