Freese and Nichols is growing in Florida and seeking an experienced Structural Engineering Leader and Project Manager in one of our Florida offices. This leader will focus on our operations and clients and work with the Group Managers, Account Director, Division Manager and other FNI leaders to further break into the Florida Markets and hire/develop a group of people to serve our prospective clients. This position also includes technical expertise and project management of complex civil and architectural projects. As a key player in our team, you’ll drive growth, foster client connections, and contribute to the overall success of our firm.
Major Responsibilities:
Sales/Client Development
- Responsible for FNI Team strategy development in alignment and coordination with the region to grow Florida services.
- Supports development, refinement, and implementation of the annual business plan for clients, programs, projects, and conferences
- Provides leadership in obtaining and developing new Florida clients each year in connection with our strategy and annual planned targets
- Develops high-value client relationships, while representing Freese and Nichols with clients and teaming partners
- Serves as Client Representative for several of our anchor or growth clients
- Engages and cultivates client service teams to support understanding and delivering on client needs and expectations
- Creates client engagement strategies and pursuit plans, actively leading in key opportunity proposal strategy, positioning, teaming, messaging, and interview development
- Serves as senior technical resource for key clients
- Supports development of staff members, especially as it relates to exceptional client service delivery, strategic planning, and effective communication
- Leverages resources, experience, and skills of the firm to support client goals
- Participates in professional societies (leadership and committee positions), creating connections for Freese and Nichols and technical professionals in support of client goals
Project Management
- Oversee heavy civil projects (e.g., dams, floodwalls, water treatment facilities) and architectural projects (low to mid-rise commercial, educational, and industrial buildings).
- Develop project proposals, including scope, budget, and schedule.
- Lead project teams, ensuring successful project delivery within scope, budget, and timeline.
- Solicit feedback from clients and continuously improve our services.
Technical Leadership and Quality Control:
- Act as a senior advisor on structural design and analysis.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Provide expert insights during inspections and assessments.
- Implement rigorous quality assurance processes.
- Ensure deliverables meet high standards.
- Address constructability issues proactively.
Team Collaboration and Growth:
- Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster professional growth.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
- Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Balance competing priorities and deadlines.
- Support Group Manager in performing management and supervisory functions for the Florida team
- Support Group Manager in forecasting the workload of the group and maintaining a qualified staff that can meet the project assignments. Assist the Group Manager in coordinating cross-group utilization of staff with other Group Managers within the firm.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 15+ years' experience in structural engineering with additional experience in water/wastewater treatment preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida.
- Proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a project team and oversee excellent quality of work.
- Federal project management experience is a plus.
- Must possess experience of client development/sales, specifically being a leader of developing client relationships with a larger engineering consultant team/firm (regional and company-wide)
