IMEG is growing, and we’d love to have you join our team!  We are currently seeking a Structural Project Engineer in our Pensacola, FL office. The Structural Project Engineer will be responsible for calculations, system design, including gravity framing, lateral framing, and foundation sizing, reports, progress submittals, BIM instructions for the project, and specifications required to assure project completeness and accuracy within the allocated period and monetary budget. The Structural Project Designer consistently exercise his/her own discretion and judgement in the performance of these duties. Additionally, they will act as Lead Designer on projects and is able to analyze and design simple structures using engineering judgement, computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.

Some key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Lead efforts for the analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials; Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
  • Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects; Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives; Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications; Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering; Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases

Key skills and abilities needed for the position are:

  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in  mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structures
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including  structural engineering design and analysis software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

Education and experience requirements are:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
