About the role

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Finance professional to be a force multiplier for scaling Hex’s business rapidly and efficiently. The successful candidate has experience at a growing SaaS business, is a self-starter who can manage prioritization across multiple projects, and works well with senior leaders independently. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to help scale a high-growth startup, we would love to talk to you.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience across Strategic Finance, FP&A, Investment Banking or equivalent. Direct experience at a growing SaaS business, along with a strong educational background in Finance or a related field, are a must. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help build Hex’s Strategic Finance function from the ground up. Join us!

We’re not big on titles at Hex, but if helpful you can compare this role to something like a “Strategic Finance Associate,” or “Strategic Finance Manager,” at other companies.

What you’ll do

  • Analyze and optimize financial performance across Hex. Act as an advisor to business partners on how to improve ROI and scale Hex’s business efficiently.
  • Help establish key metrics and goals for Hex’s SaaS business, regularly monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on these metrics to drive business improvement and efficiency.
  • Support Annual Planning efforts at Hex. Build detailed headcount and expense budgets, help set GTM goals, and partner with business leaders to turn goals into results.
  • Own monthly Budget vs Actuals expense reports, advising senior business partners on their expenses and how best to maximize ROI. Go beyond reporting and take action to scale Hex’s business efficiently.
  • Assist with business updates and Board Meeting materials to communicate business performance to Hex’s board members and investors.
  • Support other Financial Operations as needed, including working with Accounting to build a Month End Close process, forecasting equity burn, negotiating vendor purchases, and managing cash flow.
  • Work closely with our People and Biz Ops teams to ensure our operational and financial planning processes run smoothly and are clearly understood across the organization.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years of total experience in Strategic Finance, FP&A, Investment Banking/PE, or a hedge fund. Direct company experience partnering with business leaders in a high-growth SaaS business is a must.
  • Strong understanding of the key drivers of a SaaS business and how they scale.
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills in Microsoft Excel, with great attention to detail and ability to work with large data sets.
  • A solid understanding of US GAAP accounting and corporate finance principles.
  • Ability to flex between high-level strategic thinking and deep-dive analytical problem solving. You exhibit a bias to action and go beyond reporting to drive improvements in the business.
  • Self-Starter with a high sense of ownership, looking to build processes that scale.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust and effectively collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Strong academic background from top college or university, with a concentration in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Nice to have: a working knowledge of SQL, Salesforce, NetSuite/Quickbooks, and Ramp.
  • This role is Hybrid and requires at least Tuesday + Thursday office attendance in our San Francisco HQ.

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.

The salary band for this role is: $130,000 - $185,000
The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience. Our Recruiting team will be able to provide more details during the interview process.

What We Do

We're building a collaborative platform for data science and analytics. Our product empowers users to explore, analyze, and share data more effectively and has become essential to how data teams at 800+ companies like Notion, Brex, and Fivetran operate.

Every day, Hex empowers thousands of people to ask and answer new questions of data, and seamlessly share the results with everyone. We have a big vision for analytics, where everyone can access and create knowledge from data – and there’s so much left to do. Our roadmap is full of big ideas and little details, and we want your help bringing them to life.

Why Work With Us

We’re a team of builders. We spend our days designing and developing beautiful products, growing and supporting our user base, and helping each other succeed and learn. To do that, we've developed a culture focused on quality, craft, and speed -- with very few meetings, bias toward action, and taking care of each other through feedback and support.
